In our quest to beautify our websites and get away from the stereotypical “Blogger” look, jennymcb and I have been surfing the net until our eyes are bleary. She found a blog that is so delicious it makes us both drool. We also have blog envy so badly our faces are green. It’s not a pretty sight. But, this site is pretty. Though this woman probably gets plenty of exposure already, I had to alert you to a blog that should be on your list of daily reads.:“Scribbit—Motherhood in Alaska
The overall site design is one of the cleanest and most appealing I have seen. The colors are soothing, and the design is a classic. Her Navbar design by CSSplay is amazing, because it removes the clutter from the page, but allows for easy access to her archives and links. When I win the lottery, I will purchase a Navbar like that. Oh, would that I had a geek in the house.
The only things I would wish are that her template allowed the post column to be wider and that the fonts were larger. I wish for larger font on every blog, so I can’t complain about it. A first glance at the title, and you might think that this was just a blog about being a mommy. After all, Michelle, who lives in Anchorage, Alaska, is the mother of four children and has put together a custom search engine for moms.
She writes a lot about her children. Don’t let that stop you, if you are not a parent. She’s a writer with background as an editor, a freelance technical writer, and as a research assistant for the National Archives in Washington, D.C. Again, it is not your typical “mommy blog.” so do NOT be deterred by the title.
Yes, she has tips and recipes. But, they are interspersed between high quality essays on life with a family. Her posts are thoughtful and moving stories that draw the reader into the plot and have a universal theme to which we all can relate. Her writing is spiced with intelligence and a delightful sense of humor. Just when you think you know where she is going with the story, she pulls an “O. Henry” twist ending on you.
Michelle also sponsors a monthly contest called Write Away, which might interest you aspiring authors out there. A new topic will be announced April .Definitely this is a blog worth your time. Check it out.

Thanks Shelly, I’llhave a look and see what I’ve got at the bottom… in answer to your ponder… no I haven’t attached labels… do they lead anywhere?
Well thanks so much, I’m blushing–only my mom says such nice things as that!
The CSS Play stuff is free, if you’re interested in picking it up. You just need to know how to put it in.
Thanks for the comments about the font size and column width, I’m always looking for feedback and I appreciate it.
Hey Shelly,
Love the picture in the header, very cool. So how many hours did you spend today on your blog?
What did you do different with the photos? It is going across the post in firefox and in safari browsers, ( dang just found a problem with my header in safari)
Yep, Scribbit’s blot is definitely one of the nicest ones out there and I enjoy reading her blogs.
Hey Shelley, I posted today with labels!!!! Thanks
I’m entering the contest for increasing traffic. CONTROVERSY!!
That’s my tip.
And I couldn’t find the link to comment on your main site. Got frustrated and almost gave up.
Miss LyreLeaf
Hmm. I have a neighbor who told me I needed controversy. She knows a lot about plants. Could that be you, Anonymous? You have me curious.
Thanks for the link. I get so excited when I get new vistors.
I do like your larger font size. If you find a site with print to small click the view button in your browser and increase the size to your confort level.
Thanks for visiting, Janet. I do the larger font size because I’m getting to be blind as a bat. I have forty-eleven pairs of glasses around here and can never find a pair. I think the cats hide them. I’ll try increasing the font size in my browser, but some of the fonts are so tiny I’d still need a magnifying glass!
