Those Forgotten “Archived Posts”

by Shelly Kneupper Tucker on April 21, 2007

Do y’all have posts in your archives that you feel are under appreciated? You know—the ones you wrote back when you were “talking to yourself. I know that I sure do. At the time I wrote them, I labored over them as if I were birthing an elephant without benefit of epidural. I just wanted to please “my audience.”

I was fooling myself. At the time, my stats showed a flat line. The only people who ever visited my pages were my husband, Big Bubba, my best friend, and a neighbor down the street. They only looked at it because they knew that the next time they saw me I would eagerly ask, “Didja see me post today? Didja? Huh?” They didn’t want to hurt my feelings. And, they just wanted me to shut up about blogging.

If you are in the same boat with me, go into your archives and find a post you want to have people read. One day this weekend, instead of stressing about writing a new long post, write a short one and post a link to that archived page. Tell people why you want them to read it.

If you want, come back here and comment with a link to your new post. I won’t think you are being a “comment ho.” And, I’ll go read it! In fact, I’ll update this post tonight, and put the first five links on the first page. Maybe some of the other people who come here now will go to your site and get hooked on reading what you have to say.

Since you are going to take a day off from posting, do what I’m going to do. I’m going out in the “real world” this weekend to remember that I have a life! At least, I once had a life—before I became addicted to blogging. Just for today, I’m going to try to go find it. If you have my same addiction, I want you to do that, too. Tomorrow, we can start fresh.

For my part, I’d love for you to read “I’m in love with Narcissus…I’m in love with Narcissus”. Then, if you know what the heck kind of flower this is, please come back and tell me. My mystery flower just bloomed, at last, and my Dear Husband took a picture for me.

We have to catch up. I love your new site — and I especially love that there is a little heart that pops up in the address window whenever I visit your page. The flower is a peony. I love them, they smell like roses, and before they open, they always have little ants crawling all over them. They are fun to peel, by the way, before they open. Next, I love the contest idea. I’m glad I have until May 3rd, because I’m still unpacking and dinner guests are coming tonight.

I hope your evening went well! That little heart is a favicon that Leanne designed for me. I was trying to make one, and I’m so glad she did that instead. Thank you for telling me the name of the flower! The whole bush has burst into bloom now, but I don’t see any little ants. I would never peel them before they open, so I’ll never know how fun that is! I look forward to visiting with you soon~skt

Just seen some of your story telling videos. You’re really good at it.
I’d expected to watch a few moments and then turn it off but my god I’ve been watching through all them. Captivating performances.

Thanks, Simon. I appreciate the kudos. I appreciate that you took time to watch them, too  ~skt

Thanks for admitting that in the beginning no one but you reads it. It made me feel better since I’m new to all of this (and not very good). I’m looking forward to reading your archives. Have a great weekend!

You are too “very good” or I wouldn’t have mentioned you in my later posts!~skt

Hi, Shelly! I just went and voted for you. :) And I like your idea about taking a day off blogging and linking to older posts in archives. I wrote some really good posts in my “flatline” days, too! LOL!

Alas, it’s too late for me to take a day off blogging today, but that sounds like a great idea for tomorrow. And LOL @ laboring without benefit of an epidural over the longer posts — that’s how I feel sometimes, too, and I’ve never even had a kid! ;)

Thanks for your vote Thomma Lyn! I think we need to probably try to take a day off every week. Easier said than done. I’m trying hard to keep my posts fresh, as you do, and it’s hard when all you do is stare at this screen with zombie eyes. If you’ve never experienced labor, it’s hard to describe it. Thankfully, our memories erase the pain somewhat, or the species would not perpetuate!~skt
