Enchanted Rock is located in the Texas Hill Country. These were taken on a drizzly overcast day on Sunday, May 6, 2007. No, I didn’t climb to the summit, though there is a pathway to it. I didn’t have time, because I was headed for a rendezvous with a ghost.

While at the rock, I saw a group of two women and a girl taking pictures. I asked if they would like me to take a picture of them together, and posed them in the area of the 4th picture down. One of the women told me that she and her sister had driven from Houston every year since they were teenagers to climb the rock. They come before summer, because the rock is too blistering hot to climb in the Texas heat. This year, her daughter turned thirteen, and her “rite of passage” was to join her mother and aunt in the ritual of climbing the enchanted rock. I thought that was pretty alright.

Thanks for visiting, Bridget! Hope your WW is good, too!~skt
What a place! I love your pics. I’ll have to come back tomorrow to find out more.
Thanks, Alison. You’ll find the ghost story then.~skt
Really neat pictures. That sounds like a great family tradition for that young girl too!
Girls actually need some kind of rite of passage with their moms. I thought those women were pretty wonderful to think to do it! Happy WW.~skt
What a beautiful area. I like the little purple flowers especially.
I thought it was fun that it was almost growing out of the rock. There was hardly any dirt to nourish it. It won’t last long. The Texas heat will fry it.~skt
Fantastic photos, and a nice story
My photos aren’t as good as yours, and I’m almost ashamed to post them! But, I liked the story, too, so I had to share it. I never shut up, do I?~skt
That is gorgeous. Kinda reminds me of Stone Mountain in GA
I’ve never seen Stone Mountain, but just pictures. This is a mini-version (and I thought everything was bigger in Texas—myth busted)~skt
That’s an amazing sight, I love the tree by the water … I have a tree thing going on sorry.
You can have a tree thing going. I loved that spot, too. Nobody would stop and take a picture of me!~skt
Those are some really beautiful pics. I loved the story of the ladies climbing the rock too. Happy WW to you!
Thank you Sweet Tea. Sorry I haven’t been by to visit today…I’ll get over there before to long! ~skt
what an absolutely gorgeous spot. and a great story to go with it
Thanks! It was a lovely break from driving. Happy WW.~skt
I love the Hill Country. Those pictures make me want to go back soon.
Yes, this time of year those country back roads are beautiful! What’s your favorite town in the hill country? Or, are they all favorites?~skt
Beautiful location, and I enjoyed the photos. Thank you, and Happy WW …
Amazing pictures! And I’m glad you explained!
Melanie, if you stop by often enough you will discover I never stop explaining! I have to write something on WW, because my pics are not so hot! But, more than that I am genetically incapable of silence
Thanks for visiting.~skt
Well, I’m intrigued and have to come back to find out about the ghost!
Well, it’s going to be my TT tomorrow, so come along and find out. I have other ghost stories on this site, too. But, you have to look in the archives.~skt
Nice story. It makes life a lot nicer when you stop to talk to strangers.
Yeah, it does, Michael. Especially if you will take pictures for them
~skt
Great scenery! And a very nice story. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for visiting to see it! Have a great WW.~skt

Come back to see…ghosties and so forth.~skt
It looks like a real lovely place to visit.
It is. Especially on an overcast day. Thanks for stopping by.~skt
Oh, this is lovely country. Each shot made me a little more homesick… thanks for that! I hope we’ll have a chance to see my folks in Texas this year, just not in the summertime!
I agree with you. Texas in the summertime is hotter ‘n Hades. I’ve lived here all my born days and I’ll never be “used to it.”~skt
Great photos! Thanks for sharing and Happy WW.
Angel Mama ( Pearls of Wisdom)
Thanks for stopping by, and thanks for the kind words.~skt
Beautiful! I so want to visit Texas someday…

Sorry, Dariana. It’s just the way I am. Gotta talk…~skt
Gorgeous pics! The scenery is completely different to what I’m used to.
(And I loved your blogger advice post.)
Thanks, Chris. I’m glad you liked the blogger advice, too. Not like I’m particularly one whose advice you want to take

What a beautiful place – I’d love to see it in person and explore.
You should try it. I could have spent several days there, if I had world enough and time.~skt
It looks like the perfect place to take a hike!
If you like straight up, it was! Actually the climb wouldn’t have been bad, but the rocks were slick from the drizzle.~skt
Lovley picture.
Happy WW!
Happy WW back! Thanks for visiting.~skt
Such a beautiful place, thank you for posting these today. I really liked the last one with the tiny, lone figure walking on the trail. It gave a nice sense of height and distance.
And cool about the rite of passage. I wonder how many other traditions the family you encountered have.
I’d bet they have more traditions. I was hoping that you could see the outline of the people at the summit, but it didn’t show. I wanted to go to that summit, but I just didn’t have time!~skt
Great place to visit on a Sunday. We went on a family road trip Sunday to a fair in Northern Arizona. Come see my WW photo!
I’ll have to stop by. I keep going to the wrong blog! How many do you have now?~skt
WOW what incredible beauty. Thanks for showing us all these breath taking photos and that great story of those ladies. What a wonderful way to honor Mother Earth and the young girl-becoming-woman.
Everyone is invited to my blog, hope to see you there.
Thanks for visiting! I enjoyed your lilacs ~skt
I’m a native Texan — grew up in the Austin area — and I love Enchanted Rock.
So glad you posted this, even though it made me a tad homesick!
You wouldn’t be homesick for Austin traffic! But, I sure do love all the country west of I35. Arkansas isn’t that far away!~skt
That’s pretty cool and I like the rite of passage thing, that’s pretty awesome.
Happy WW!
Yes, the rite of passage story she told me was worth the drive out there. Thanks for stopping. I loved your Long And Winding Road picture.~skt
Great scenery there! Sounds like you had a good time. Happy WW (it’s my first one
)
And, it was a lovely one! Thanks for coming by to mine.~skt
Somebody mention hiking! My poor british skin would probable frazzle with the weather, but it looks so nice i would still give it a go!
Me a tease? never! everyone looked
Yes you are a tease
back at you. But, you are a fun tease. The heat wasn’t bad yet, but you don’t want to try it in the summer! ~skt
I was looking at photos of TX tonight taken over the last few weeks by an RV blogger. Now, you have more beautiful ones, I had no idea TX was so beautiful.
Shame on you Marcia! How could you not have an idea that Texas is beautiful? I know that Washington is gorgeous, but Texas has its own beauty. You’ll have to visit. Call before you come and I’ll give you an itinerary of things to see and do! ~skt
