The Man in Black

Today over at Duward Discussion, Jamie had a unique idea that I just love. Because she doesn’t often comment when she visits blogs, and rarely answers the comments on her own blog, she decided to put videos as “thank you gifts” to folks who had recently commented. She said, “So here are some presents for the most recent visitors who took the time to say hello. I tried to pick videos that in someway matched the profiles from their blogs.” Cool idea, Jamie. If we keep commenting will we get more music?

I was totally tickled that she put up a video for me that included Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings, and my heroes Willie Nelson and the late, great Johnny Cash. Run on over to her site and see what she put up. While you are at it, poke around in the archives. Jamie is the blogger I want to be when I “grow up.”

I have a very diverse musical taste, but I have to admit that Johnny Cash was, and is still, THE MAN. Thank you Jamie, for that gift. Johnny Cash was right “on the money.” You made me hunger to hear some more, so I searched for one of my favorite songs.

My youngest son thought it was humorous to find me playing a video of Johnny Cash (a cover of the Nine Inch Nails song, “Hurt”) and weeping. He never thought his Momma would weep to a song of “his generation.” Well, I fooled him. And, Johnny Cash fooled us. If you think The Man in Black was only country western, think again. I challenge you to watch the following video and not weep. If you can, you have a heart of stone.

{The video has gone AWOL. If you would like to see it, Google it}

    He is one of the few that can take a song and make it his own. Years ago, he covered a Soundgarden song – it tickled me so.

    Thanks for the link.

    You’ll have to post that song, I don’t immediately know which one you mean. I hope you check out Duward Discussions.~skt

    Wow. I’d never seen that video. Looking at it on the same day I did the 10 Songs that Make Me Cry for 10 on Tuesday? What a mistake. Now I really must go lock myself in the bathroom, turn on the shower steam and cry!

    Oh, I’ll have to go check out Duward Discussion, too!

    I’m so sorry to make you really cry. But, you can have a nice hot shower!~skt

    I can say this only because you know the stone is only temporary, rebuilt after all the mother talk last week — I did not cry, but I teared up — I think it is called determined temporary self-control. The video is amazing and it is one I will watch again – kind of like the CD I have of only melancholy or sad songs for those times you just need to let it all out (and don’t mind the sinus headache that follows).

    On my way to Duward Discussion, really curious.
