@Cad That is so totally wonderful! I bet you have some stories to tell. I'd love to see all your circus memorabilia. I am betting that you have some!

My father was one of the original members of the Little Theater Circus, which later became the Gainesville Community Circus, until his accidental death during World Wat II. I, myself, became a clown at the age of 10 years in 1936 and continued until the suspension for the war. After the war, I was able to perform in only a few performances.

Found this blog entry while searching the web for Gainesville Community Circus pictures. My grandfather was A. Morton Smith, and my father Dan, uncle Jerry, and grandmother Louise were all clowns in the circus.

My father Dan is still alive, and if anyone reading this is interested in jogging his memory about the Gainesville circus days, I'll be happy to put you in touch with him.

Hey Greg,
Sorry not to respond quickly. I've been having computer problems. What a great history! I will try to mention this in a post...folks don't slip in to read archives much. If you think of it, tell me what contact info you'd have me use (or if you just want them to contact me and let me screen them). I appreciate you stopping by. Is your dad still in Gainesville?~skt

I love those vintage pictures!! I can't tell you how much I love them. And little did you know, at the time, how many people would be reading this story!! I love it.

I still don't know how many people are reading it, SusieJ! And, you can use them if you want...they are copies of old postcards I collected.~skt
