I wrote to Phara at your mirror or mine to ask her if she would like to write something on this blog to all of the volunteers who are making Share A Square happen. You see, Phara had posted about a quilt that was given to her son, Riley, at cancer camp. It was made by volunteers, and it is what inspired me to want to do something. I asked if she had any pictures of her son that she would share, or if he preferred to remain anonymous. She replied in an e-mail, and this is what she said:
I think it should just say something to the effect of some inspiration needs no words and then show the pics of my son (who did want his face shown). One is of the day of the bone marrow transplant, and the other is current. The afghans will be used to make them feel better during treatments, during illness, during hospitalizations, and just being at home on the couch. And they will be forever a part of their lives..good and bad…young and old. And when I told my son of this project his teenage response was “very cool”. I second that response.
Thanks for all you are doing.
She is thanking all of us, my friends.
Thank you, Phara and Riley for sharing yourselves with us. Our best wishes to you.
[EDITOR'S NOTE: The Share A Square project has ended, and the afghans were delivered on July 7th, 2008. Although we will not continue that project, an exciting NEW endeavor, called the Good Medicine Project is in progress for summer camp 2009. We hope you will join us.]

I love hearing from Phara and seeing Riley with his quilt. It just makes me even more determined to make a house full of squares.
That’s MY house you are filling

I hope all the recipients of the Share a Square blankets will share a little of their lives with us.
I also hope they know how we’re all pulling for them as we are busy crocheting.
I don’t know that they will, Janet. I will certainly respect their anonymity. And, they know we are, at least the camp knows.~skt
Yahoo! Let’s hear it for Phara and Riley for sharing their story. I sure hope the project exceeds your goal!

I bet you could do it if you tried. Then, you would have the skills to crochet a bikini top for your next Rock Chick gig
