A Handful of Squares

by Shelly Kneupper Tucker on June 24, 2007

dsc01599-2.JPG MANY THANKS TO:

  • Vicki A.
    in Valley Center, CA
  • Casey K. in Belen, NM
  • Christine S.
    in Cheyenne, WY

  • These all came on Saturday! WhooHOO! Thank you, ladies!

michellehsquares.jpg On Friday I received a package from Michelle H. in Washington, DC. She had asked if I could use some squares she had begun for an afghan of her own. She said she would never finish it. With a couple of extra rows, they work great! There are 77 in there…Thanks, Michelle!

mattys-yarn.jpgMatty, this is the yarn and some crochet hooks that your donation bought. I appreciate you!

As of today, FIFTY-ONE squares are rimmed with black yarn and ready to go (that’s ONE afghan PLUS some!). From what I hear, many people have put some squares in the mail. I’ll keep you updated! Thank you all for pitching in to help!

[EDITOR'S NOTE: The Share A Square project has ended, and the afghans were delivered on July 7th, 2008. Although we will not continue that project, an exciting NEW endeavor, called the Good Medicine Project is in progress for summer camp 2009. We hope you will join us.]

I knitted my first two squares today in a beautiful teal blue – they actually came out the right size, who would have thought!! Have to wait until we get back to WA to tag them and mail them and the others I get done! – that won’t be until maybe Thursday. It is exciting to see your first ones resting gently in the hand – makes me want to sing, she’s got the whole world in her hands. . .

Oh, you sweetie! I can’t wait to see your squares. See, I didn’t realize that you were a knitter! I think I’ll probably get as many knitted ones as I get crocheted ones…I wonder what will be in the mail tomorrow. Hope you are having a good trip~skt

Mine are packaged and ready to go to the post office tomorrow. I took a day off from crocheting, but it was hard to do.
    What a great project Shelly!

Wow Shelly, 20 bucks does go far in Texas!I’m getting excited here, can’t wait to see some finished afghans. Leave an address where some of us can send donations of yarn or money. I’m sure everyone is excited now and anxious to see your dream come true!

Very cool. I posted about it on my blog, so hopefully some Alaskan squares will begin arriving.
