Squares Tumbling Down The Stairs

squares-7_6.JPG

Chills are running up and down my spine as I write this. I had to sit down and cry. The love and caring that emanated from my mail yesterday still overwhelms me.

Thank you to everyone who is responding to this Share A Square Project. I can’t wait to show y’all some of the finished product when these afghans for the children at Camp Sanguinity get stitched together. Can you imagine how a child with cancer will feel to receive one of those afghans and know how many people care?

A couple of days ago, when I had a car to drive, I stopped at Jupiter House (my 24 hour coffee shop on the square in Denton) to get my daily fix of mocha. My buddy behind the counter was remarking on how rude people can be, and she mused that people just aren’t very kind these days. I just grinned at her and said, “Baby, come to my house and you will think differently.”

Yes, squares are arriving daily! Mitchowl in Idaho sent several that I received in the mailbox yesterday. So did Christine in Wyoming (who has already sent one package) and Barbara, in Pennsylvania. I was delighted to see the pile growing!

Then, a brown truck pulled up at my driveway with a package from Donna in Chicago (you might remember I told you that I had called that sweet lady when I received her first squares). FIFTY squares tumbled out of the box, each one dedicated to one of her children, grandchildren, or their friends.

Oh, yes, baby. There are kind people in the world.

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

I have more to tell y’all about things going on around here. I’ll post more in a little while. First, I have to find a “translator” to put on my website, because Lola has some readers who want to figure out my Texas gibberish here. Is “Texan” a language that Babelfish can translate?

And, before I write again, I want some more of you to go to my post about my Honda Element. I have a poll trying to determine the name of this pernicious beast. So far, “Hussy” is in the lead. Tell me what you think, and I’ll determine her name later today. All you have to do is click to vote.

[EDITOR'S NOTE: The Share A Square project has ended, and the afghans were delivered on July 7th, 2008. Although we will not continue that project, an exciting NEW endeavor, called the Good Medicine Project is in progress for summer camp 2009. We hope you will join us.]

WOW! Look at all those squares! I am anxious to see one of the complete afghans! There certainly are some wonderful people in this world!! I’m so happy you had this idea. It’s so inspiring!!

I’m still trying to figure out how to make a square! I’ll get it, no worries!!

Jessica

I can’t wait to show you one of them! I’m getting antsy waiting for the date of the first Share A Square get together…
I’m so happy that so many people have taken the project to heart and want to help! You keep trying, Sister. If you can ever make the first one, it’s easy after that.~skt

I just love seeing all those squares!

I have paused a bit - just a bit though. My DD is away visiting her Gramma for the next 10 days and it’s a great time to work on her Christmas ripple afghan….but when she comes back I have sneak to work it in - so it’s a great time for me to work on these squares.

I made about 18 or so a few weeks ago and I’ll send up a big box when get through the rest of my yarn, probably by the end of July.

Hats off to everyone who is working so hard on this!

You don’t have to crochet all the time! There is life to be lived, too! Take that time alone and have some fun!! I’m so delighted to be able to show off the lovely square from Saskatchewan, Sweet Tea. You made the project “international!” Thank you!!!~skt

How wonderful. I haven’t mailed my package to you yet, but will in the next few days. We have been so busy. I’m glad this project is exceeding your expectations. That is so wonderful. I think a lot of it has to do with you though. People just are drawn to you and that is a wonderful thing too. Have a great day Shelly! )

It’s really a cool project, Sandee. I think people are drawn to the idea! Being able to give something tangible is so much better than being asked to donate money. I’m so sorry that crochet was just too much. You have other talents, so I’m not going to worry about you. Just keep making me laugh, and I’ll consider that your contribution! lol ~skt

Ooh, am loving all those bright colors!

You should see the whole pile! With black around the rim, it looks like stained glass. Did you see that you are going to get half of a gas cap when Shiftless Hussy dies? Maybe I’ll send you a hubcap. Wait, I don’t think she has hubcaps…~skt
