[If you are not a blogger, this post will not make sense to you. You might prefer to read in my archives. Try this ghost story category or some of my silliness.]
Have y’all ever had “success” dangling in front of your eyes like a carrot in front of a work horse? You can almost touch it, but not quite. Then, some yahoo pulls it away? If you are a blogger, you surely have. The “yahoo” in question is Technorati, not Yahoo.com.
For a brief shining moment on Saturday, all of the blogs on the world wide web were “equal.” Technorati, the entity that judges our “rank,” had a glitch and ranked every blog as Number One. However, Technorati giveth and Technorati taketh away. By the end of the day, the glitch was repaired and we were all put in our humble places.
This came especially hard to a friend of mine who wants nothing more than to be able to splash this A-list badge on her blog. To be on this “elite list,” one’s blog must have 500 links to it. The problem is that we work hard to get those links, but after six months they are no longer valid. The links drop away, like a yahoo pulling away the carrot.
I want my friend to be on that A-list. In fact, I want her to reach that goal so badly that I am offering a raffle for this Thursday Thirteen in order to send her over the top. All in the world you have to do for the chance to WIN FABULOUS PRIZES, is link to Jessica The Rock Chick at Life is RANTastic. Let me tell you how to enter and why with this Thursday Thirteen:
1. Why should you enter? I can’t believe y’all have to ask! It’s GOOD KARMA! It doesn’t matter if you don’t believe in karma; consider the Golden Rule. If you do something nice for someone else, it will come back to you ten fold. Trust me on this. I would never lie to you.
2. If that reason doesn’t move you, then let your filthy greed rule you. Enter because there are PRIZES, PRIZES, PRIZES! When we put Jessica over the top, I’ll have a raffle and give away TWO Amazon gift certificates in the amount of $10 each. I’ll give away a deck of Elvis playing cards, a set of 3 sudoku books AND my firstborn child! Well, maybe not that (he is a lawyer, and would probably bring legal action for offering him as a prize), but I’ll come up with more prizes as we go along to entice you.
3. Give you another reason? Links! If you are hungry for links to your blog, I’ll list you several times, and I’ll make Jessica do that, too. She’ll do it because I said so! That ought to be reason enough for you, too.
4. You need more reasons than that? EVERYONE should know Jessica The Rock Chick. She’s one of the coolest bloggers around. When she visits your blog, she takes the time to actually read what you have written before making an insightful, intelligent (often hilarious) comment. All of us want real readers instead of just another “comment ho,” as my buddy Claire would call them.
5. Jessica’s posts are pithy and fun to read. She knows what’s happening in the world of entertainment. She’ll take you on a journey without you having to leave your chair, as she tells you about stalking Jon Bon Jovi or riding on an elephant at a Renaissance Fair. She can tug your emotions with a post about her grandfather, or have you rolling on the floor with laughter as she muses about Paris Hilton.
6. You will not meet many bloggers more generous than Jessica The Rock Chick. She devoted herself to blogging for charity in the Blogathon 2007, and if THAT doesn’t tell you that she is generous, then I can tell you more.
7. Recently, when I was feeling a little panicky about the Share A Square program to make afghans for children with cancer, Jessica (along with several other people I’ll soon be naming) jumped in to spread the word. She researched on the internet to find crochet groups and posted on their forums. She even wrote an advertisement for the Chicago Craig’s List! She’s the kind of friend YOU want to have.
8. You can say you knew her “when.” AND, if you ever visit Chicago, Jessica The Rock Chick would probably let you come along on a Rock Chick gig. But, in order to go, she tells me, you have to be able to remain awake after 10:30 at night. That lets me out, but maybe not you.
9. If none of those reasons blow your dress up, try this one: We can mess with Technorati! Why not, they mess with us. You know you want to do it.

Now that I’ve convinced you, how do you enter? The first thing you have to do is put this button on a post (right click it and save it, then upload it). Put these words beside the picture,
You don’t have to write a whole post. In fact, just go add it as an update to your Thursday Thirteen right now while you are thinking about it!
11. After you have posted, come back and tell me with a comment on this post (though you don’t have to enter to comment).
12. The more times you link to The Rock Chick, the more chances you have to WIN FABULOUS PRIZES. You could
a.) Mention Life is RANTastic in a blog post and link to the site: 1 raffle ticket.
b.) In a blog post, link to any article Jessica has written: 1 raffle ticket
c.) Add Life is RANTastic to your blogroll: 3 tickets
d.) Link to this post to let your readers enter (so we can get Jessica on the A-list even faster!): 3 tickets.
13. The raffle occurs when Jessica reaches 500 links, so tell people to enter! We have to hurry, though. Jessica’s links are getting older. On Saturday, she had 462 links. Today, it has dropped to 454! Let’s not let Technorati do that to her! Let’s send the Rock Chick to the A-List! I’ve tried to make it easy for you. In fact, it’s so easy a caveman could do it, if he had a blog.
Leave a comment and you will be magically linked on the page. Then, you can visit some other people who are participating in Thursday Thirteen.

At the Coffee shop this morning, there was a kid trying to save a two week old kitten that had been abandoned by its Momma. I thought about you, because I know how much you like cats. That kitten was so beautiful! It had that persian face and blue eyes (just barely open). It didn’t want to nurse on the bottle the kid had (the nipple may have been too big or that may have been why the Momma abandoned it). If you had been there, you’d have snatched it away to save it. I almost did, but remembered the 5 cats at home!~skt

Two of them are now involved in filing an action against the government on behalf of Katrina victims and one is an ex-Assistant D.A.-turned JAG.
Both you and Rock Chick are on the blog roll and in my Technorati favorites. Even more important you are both on the “Daily Blogs” in my pull down Favorites. So even when I don’t have time to comment, I always read two of best blogs around.
