I’ve been drinking my coffee trying to muster the oomph to write a Thursday Thirteen, my friends. I love participating in this meme, because you can meet some wonderful bloggers. I’m having a little difficulty writing today.
I’m writing this with my husband’s glasses perched on my nose. His eyesight is better than mine, so I can barely see to type. Why am I not using my own glasses? Because they are buried somewhere under all this yarn and paper that I haven’t taken time to put away. The problem is that I need my glasses to find my glasses! Growing old is not for sissies. Here are the things I “should” be doing
1. I should be straightening up this house. I’m not a “clean freak,” but I’m a “neat freak” and this is not how I live! However, without my glasses I can’t see the mess.
2. I should clean out the refrigerator. There are things in there that are totally unidentifiable. I am certain that in the dark recesses of that humming box in my kitchen there is growing a strain of mold that will cure all diseases, end world hunger, and cause peace to reign on the earth. Maybe I shouldn’t clean it? It really doesn’t matter. If I can’t find my glasses I don’t know what I’m eating anyway.
3. I should be calling some of my friends in the real world. I love all of my blogging friends, but I spend so much time with you that I am neglecting the ones who live near me. I really should do that today. If I can find my glasses and my cell phone (its buried somewhere, too). I guess I could use a real telephone, and just call “information” for the numbers. Can you still do that?
4. I should write my friend Matty at Running On Empty. Right now, I imagine she is running on empty. Her grandson has cancer and is scheduled for a bone marrow transplant. I can’t imagine her worry and grief. I’ll do that whether I find my glasses or not. I hope you will stop in and wish her well, too.
5. I should finish the two afghans I’ve been working on this week for Share A Square. I only have to finish putting together one row on one of them, put borders around them and tuck in the ends. Of course, I need my glasses for that.
6. I should add the number of raffle tickets each participant has for that raffle I have going on. Did y’all know I have a raffle going on? Click this picture to see. I should have been talking about it more, shouldn’t I. I couldn’t find my glasses. Yes, there’s a raffle and you can WIN FABULOUS PRIZES just by linking to Jessica the Rock Chick at Life is RANTastic. If you do that, we can send her straight to the A-List and she has promised to throw a party and invite us all to Chicago. We can sleep on her couch, and she will take all of us on a limousine ride to a Rock Chick gig.
7. I should be telling you to go read my interview at Blog Interviewer and vote for me so I can maybe win $15-$50!! I could sure use that money to buy some more yarn. That’s how you can participate in Share A Square if you can’t crochet! Help me win that money! All you have to do is click over there and give me a thumbs up. I should also put that icon on my sidebar—when I find my glasses.

8. I should check on that neighbor of mine around the corner. She’s an older woman living alone, and I don’t know if she has family around. The heat has been brutal the last few days, and I should make sure that she is getting along alright. That’s another thing I can do without my glasses.
9. I should run over and get a badminton birdie at Wal Mart and then get out my hot glue gun. You see, my friend Harlekwin at Boh Rhap had entered a limerick contest hoping to win this “prize.” She was so excited that she had named it “Heather No-Feather,” and cleared a place for it on her desk. Bless her heart, she didn’t win, so I want to make her one of these atrocities sculptures to keep her happy. Wonder what it will look like if I make it without finding my glasses?
[Just a note, the banner at the top is one of the many lovely banners Harlekwin has designed for Thursday Thirteen. Hop over there and find one you love for your own site.]
10. I should write an article for a contest that Linda at Are We There Yet is having. The theme is “When Have You Felt Like Death Eating a Cracker?” That sound like something I could write (I seem to have a lot of days like that). And, if I won, I could get a coffee mug with originally designed artwork from Artistic Intoxication! The problem is that the contest ends tomorrow, and I might not find my glasses!! You go enter it for me, won’t you?
11. I should be answering comments and visiting other people’s blogs. I haven’t been doing that in awhile, because I have been busy crocheting (and I apologize profusely for that). I was gonna do that today, but—-whell—you know. I can’t find my glasses!
12. I should be trying to book some storytelling gigs for next year! I was under the delusion that I could maybe start blogging and become an ueber blogger like dooce.com. I thought that The Universe would send some advertiser my way who would want to sponsor me so I could sit here in my pajamas and blog all day long. Hellooooo! It’s time to wake up, Shelly. If I don’t start booking, you will find me down at Wal Mart. I will be wearing one of those blue smocks (I look good in blue) at the door. When you walk in I’ll say, “Howdy, how’re yew this mornin’? Y’all have a nice day.” You’ll know me. I’ll be the red-headed woman with the squinty blue eyes. I’ll have to squint to see you if I don’t find my glasses.
13. I should be checking my smoke alarm batteries. Today, would have been my best friend’s birthday. He should have turned 45. Fin and I should be sitting down at Saltwater Grill eating delicious food and drinking beer. I should get to give him a goofy gift and hear his laughter (that sounded a little bit like a donkey braying). We should be doing that, yeah we should. But, he died in a fire a couple of years ago. His apartment didn’t even have smoke alarms. My heart misses him every day. I’ll check my smoke alarm batteries whether I can see them or not. You do too! I don’t want to be missing you!
NOW, I have to go look for my *#?^*!! glasses! If you see them anywhere, would you let me know? Leave me a comment and you will be magically linked. Have a wonderful day. Come back and sit with me on the porch another day.

Oh, I hate it when I can’t find my glasses! Although some of the things on your list…well, maybe I’d hold off looking for them for a bit more! LOL One of my least favorite things to do is clean out the refrigerator!
I have a feeling it’s going to be a long road to the A-List! I checked today and I am back down to 432. I’m hoping it’s a technorati mess and not a big setback
SO sorry to hear about your friend. That’s awful! We always change the batteries every time we change the clocks for daylight savings or standard time and I test them once a month. I always worry about that!
Jessica
My refrigerator is very frightening! It’s probably best that I can’t see
Yes, in all seriousness, please DO check those batteries.~skt
hope you can find your glasses!
mine’s up here: http://ivan-ulrich.blogspot.com/
happy thursday!
Thanks, I’ll keep fumbling around looking for them~skt
It is one of those heart tugging days…. (You can make the computer entries in larger print, my Mac can make them huge… I’m sure PC can’t be that far behind, grin. My attempt at humor)
However… your neighbor, the elderly woman. This is your reminder to check on her first! (You’d remind me, thank you!)
My TT is all about Matty.
I’m so sorry about your friend. I’m sure your heart must be a bit heavy.
Yes, the heart is heavy. I’ve checked on the neighbor. Actually did that before I wrote.~skt
OMG…smoke alarm batteries. I NEVER think of those and I should. That was a fun TT =)
It’s one of those things we don’t think about until it’s too late! Go check~skt
So that’s why Fin has been especially on your mind this week
. Why don’t you go out with a mutual friend and lift one in his memory.
I can still see well enough (barely) to find my glasses without my glasses on, but I’ve had similar experiences with my morning coffee. Oh the disasters I’ve had. I always say that someone who has not yet had their morning coffee should not be allowed to MAKE the coffee!
Making coffee I can do blind…it’s everything else….~skt
That’s quite a list of “should”s. I don’t want to even get started on my list– it’s bound to be too long!
About the glasses: if I lay mine down I can’t find them either; however, mine are prescription glasses I wear constantly, so it’s not as likely. My big problem now is that I “graduated” to bi-focals. That’s the glasses-wearer’s version of reading glasses. They’re always with me, but now I have the bi-focal nod. Tip your head down, no up, oh, now I can see it….
By the way, my daughter was at a missions training school last year, and one of the teachers always said “Don’t should on yourself!”
I needed to go to your daughters school! Thanks for visiting~skt
Shoulda’ could’ woulda’ come to mind reading your post… how sad about your friend… I’m off to check mine now.
Maybe you next TT could be what you wouldn’t have seen when you put your glasses on.
I need to remember that suggestion, Roby! I’m always worrying about the next TT. Thanks for visiting~skt
Well, at least without your glasses you cant see any messes…that could be a good thing:)
There you go, Lori. Let’s find Only The Good! Thank you for the positive attitude. I should remember to try that more often.~skt
that was a fun TT. and I DO hope you find those specs!
I’ll keep looking until I do.~skt
what an entertaining list!
i’m still fairly young (age 26), but i’m blind as a bat!! i’ve worn glasses since i was 10 yrs old. i’m so blind that when i can’t find my glasses i walk around having to feel for them like i am literally blind. i don’t even attempt to get anything done b/c it isn’t even possible. anyways, i do hope you find them soon b/c that list will take you days to get you completed at this rate!
i’ve got an educational TT up this week which is all about my pooch!
If I can’t find my glasses, I am up the river without a paddle—in other words I can not see—blind as a bat —that I am. There are days even with my glasses I can not see as a result of the MS and the damage done to my optic nerves.
I hope you find your glasses soon—you have too much to do to be without them for very long.
As always a gteat TT
I hope you find your glasses. I’m searching for my oldest daughter’s glasses. School started yesterday and she has no glasses. Arhhhh!!
Ha, funny post, and good luck finding your glasses! Now I’m off to clink your links
Hope you find your glasses soon, you have way too much going on to be sitting there typing blindly. Sorry to hear about your friend, thanks fro the reminder to check the batteries. Everyone should also check the batteries on their carbon monoxide detectors (or get one of they don’t already have one)…mine woke me up the other morning at 3AM because the batteries were dying.
I’m off to go read your interview and vote now.
Happy TT!!
Very well done, now find your glasses and your cell phone and get that to-do list done. Sorry about your buddy — and yes we check our smoke alarm batteries every single month. Oh, I voted for you by the way. Have a great TT.
Did you look on top of your head? That is where my husband always finds mine: Me: Where the %$# are my glasses? Him: Aren’t those them sitting up on your head?
Happy TT

LOVE it, Shelly!
I hope you find your glasses soon; it’s such a beautiful world and you’re missing it!
As for storytelling… I’m still wishing you’d find a way to join me for Northland Library’s storytelling festival. We just missed this year’s, but why not plan for next year now?
I wear rhinestone encrusted reading glasses! I figure if I have to use them they may as well be cute. For the computer it’s 1X, for beading 1.5X for reading at night 2X. I have glasses everywhere and I still run around looking for a pair. It’s really disconcerting when I find them right where I left them… on top of my head! Not only can I not see, I can’t remember anything for more than five minutes.
The TT banner looks great! Jen used one today, too. I made some for the gentlemen, but then realized they’re still pretty girlie. I think I was advertising for my dream man with my image choices!
I can’t wait to meet Miss Heather No-Feather! You’re the best!! Thank you for the links and the endorsement.
Maybe the old lady down the streets will have extra glasses. This is why I dont go to the eye doctor, though i am almost 35 and can see feni and dynda
I should be doing a lot of other things rather than reading this. But it’s a great diversion!
Should is such a double edged sword. Great tt tho!
Dang, Vixen beat me to it…top of the head. Yep, check on your neighbor, grab some lemonade and crochet. We’re all good out here in blogosphere.
I am having a hard time organizing my time between the computer, crochet, cooking for my family, work and life. It just gets done I guess. Have a better friday.
Only you could make finding glasses so comical! The way you draw from every nuisance is incredible. Sorry to hear about your friend’s tragic ending. Ironic that he gave you a lasting gift…you’ll always be on alert. {{{Hugs}}}
Celebrating a 200th Post Giveaway!
Thanks for the hugs, Rosemarie. I do seem to make nuisances silly. I guess it’s my coping mechanism~skt
