Thursday Thirteen Number 26. Scattered

I can’t concentrate, so this Thursday Thirteen will be all over the map. Usually, I take great pains to put together something silly, but today I’m just going with the flow, because I’m

scattered1.jpg

1. Get cool letters with Spell With Flickr. They were much too large for this page, so I copied them into Adobe Photoshop and reduced them.

2. Speaking of “scattered,” Janet at Life in Westcliffe had a “Scattergories” meme that is going around. She didn’t tag me, because I scream like a banshee when people tag me, but it looked interesting. You are supposed to answer the questions with a word that starts with the first letter of your name. This is how I spend my time instead of doing something productive.

My name:Shelly (so the answers start with an “S,” get it?) Really, my name is Michele. Don’t go there.
1. Famous Singer/Band: Sinatra (No, not Nancy)
2. Four letter word: Do I have to say “**it” on the blog? It’s not “shoot”, which doesn’t have four letters. Slap—that’s a four letter word! It will have to do.
3. Street: Sunset Strip
4. Color: Sapphire
5. Gifts/Presents: $$ (that’s an “S” with a line through it!)
6. Vehicle: Suburban
7. Things in a Souvenir Shop: That would be that four letter word I “won’t say on-line”.
8. Boy Name: Seamus (which means “supplanter” in Gaelic)
9. Girl Name: Sophia(in Greek means “wisdom”)
10. Movie Title: Snakes on a Plane (never saw it, never want to see it, you can’t make me see it)
11. Drink: Sangria
12. Occupation: Storyteller! Is there any other occupation?
13. Celebrity: Sting
14. Magazine: Seventeen (OK, I thought it was cool back then)
15. U.S. City: San Francisco (I left my ♥ there)
16. Pro Sports Teams: Stars (as in Dallas, Texas Hockey team)
17. Fruit: Strawberry
18. Reason for Being Late for Work: sexSlept late
19. Something You Throw Away: Nothing. Oh, that doesn’t start with “s” My goodness! “That word I won’t say on-line” could get used here, too.
20. Things You Shout: Soooey! (Oops, been on the farm too long) I could have said “that word I won’t say on-line,” because I shout it often enough if you aren’t listening. “**it’s” an all-purpose word, isn’t it?
21. Cartoon Character: Snoopy

Wasn’t that special? Aren’t you glad you know? I do what I can to amuse you.

3. In Roanoke, when I go to crochet on Wednesday, I always see interesting projects. Many of the women are knitters (which is a skill I haven’t mastered). Alice knits these wonderful bags
alice_crocheted_bags.JPG

on the tiniest of needles. I think she said the size of those needles was 0000, and they aren’t any thicker than a darning needle. She learned to crochet and knit in Germany before she was old enough to go to school, and her skills are astounding. Before she begins to knit these teensy two inch long bags, she has to string 2,000 seed beads on the thread! Pretty amazing. They make me think of a very elaborate “medicine bag” like the Native Americans used. You could put your lucky charms in there (not Lucky Charms cereal, because that would make a mess, however it would be a handy snack during the day).

blow-my-dress-up_poster-edges.jpg4. I have procured a couple of those beaded bags, and one is going to be a prize in a contest. Which bag do you think I should put in the contest?

Yes, I definitely need to have a contest, don’t I? Since I can’t ever get finished with anything! Watch, though because in the next week I’m going to have a writing contest. Yep. I’m resurrecting the

This Blog Blows My Dress Up Contest.

This time, there will be a theme. Hmmm. I’m thinking “Date from Hell?” Start thinking about a possible post, if you want to win that bag !

5. I shamed my husband into buying me flowers, bless his heart. NOW, I have to wonder what he did!

afghan_needs_border.JPG6. Yes, there is a new update for Share A Square. There is a new FAQ page, too. We now have 15 afghans finished and there are 10 of them farmed out to other people to finish. This one needs an edge crocheted around it. I’m working on the one below today.

7. I have some cool new shoes, and I’m looking for a chance to wear them. Maybe with a pink poodle skirt? Maybe with my hot pink vintage bowling shirt?

dsc02054.JPG

OK, you don’t think they are “the tops”, but I do. I’m a little twisted.

byebyebirdie1.jpg8. My friend Harlekwin at BohoRhap wanted to win this prize, but didn’t. Personally, I would have thought that not winning it was a good thing, but she wanted it.

I’m in the process of making one for her, with the help of my engineer husband. From the pictures she has been showing on her blog, I may have to drive out there and personally deliver it! Oregon is beautiful.

9. Matty at Running on Empty sent me some yarn for Share A Square with this stuffed Moose as a Canadian souvenir. Thank you Matty.

iwritefortbmroundedborder.jpg10. Have you ever checked out Top Blog Magazine? I’ve been accepted as a writer with them, and am looking forward to the opportunity. Visit to read some pretty interesting and thought provoking articles. If ah’mona write fer them, does ‘at mean I mona have to quit tawkin’ lak a Texan?

11. Rosemarie at Miscellaneous Matters got herself a fortune cookie, so I decided I needed one, too. It’s one of those that you can keep trying until you get the one you want. I’m not sure I wanted this one, but I stopped with it.
My Fortune Cookie told me: Never try to tapdance with parrots on a shrub.

I believe I won’t have any problem at all never doing that.

12. You’ve been reading long enough. You need to get up from the chair and get some exercise. Let’s get you dancing. I promise your feet will be tapping.

There’s a local band here in Denton, Texas called “Brave Combo.” Here’s how they are described on YouTube:

The Grammy Award-winning band Brave Combo specializes in a unique brand of domestic and exotic dance rhythms that fuel what Billboard calls, “world-wise, unclassifiable music.”

Brave Combo is sometimes called a “polka band,” and they do play a lot of polkas. Hey, don’t knock it, they had about 6 seconds of fame on an episode of the Simpsons. Here is The Hokey Pokey like you have never heard it before. Go ahead. You know you want to.

13. I found these stress mints at my local coffee shop. I know they are “homeopathic,” because it says so on the box (and I believe everything I read). They may be the answer to all my prayers. Good thing I’m not homeopathophobic.

Leave me a comment if you would like (whether you are playing Thursday Thirteen or not) and you will be magically linked. Then you can visit some other Thursday Thirteen participants. I hope your day is good. Come back and sit with me on the porch another day.

Hi Shelly!

With everything you do, I’m surprised you have time to write your blog! LOL….wow-you are one busy bee!!! Since school started and my blog crashed, I haven’t had time to write and try to update it or decide if I’m still going to Wordpress. I don’t think so. I’m thinking of putting the Blogspot back together. I haven’t even had time to visit blogs! yikes!

I do love the pink shoes! I would totally wear them.

I haven’t heard of Top Blog Mag-I’m going to have to check them out–one of my favorite writers is writing for them now!! (that’s you!!)

Jessica The Rock Chick

I’m hoping I continue having time to write the blog. I’ve gotten excited about writing several different pieces, but haven’t made the time to do it. Part of the secret is “menopause!” I never sleep anymore lol . I’m so sorry you have been having trouble with your blog. Have you thought of getting someone to help set it up? I know you have to pay money to do it, but it’s worth it. What size shoe do you wear? If you wear “boats,” I’ll send you these shoes!~skt

Wow you are amazing. I wish I could put together a post like you do. I mostly wonder why I bother at all, then I remember why I do it and continue on.

I thing the cream and brown is the cutest bag actually one that might fit with my casual dress. lol. The pink shoes, holy moly I’d really get some looks in cowboy country. I don’t participate in your writing contests so don’t count my vote.

Was going to show my sis how to crochet last evening but she was busy chasing her grandson. Maybe tonight. I need to tag and mail you some more squares they’re ready to go. I’m bad, I can’t even bring myself to get that done for you and the kids.

Your doing a great job!

Girlfriend, you do wonderful posts! I love the pictures you put on-line…they are about the only thing that is cool on a hot Texas day. Notice that I’m reading, but I’m not commenting. I DON”T get things done the way I like, but maybe I need to “lower the bar.” I appreciate the help you are giving the project, so don’t beat yourself up. You have a lot going on.

I’m hoping no one thinks the cream and brown bag should go in the contest…I kinda covet it. grin ~skt

The Hokie-Pokie song got my heart to pumpin’. I cracked up when they got to the part about putting your tongue in, put your tongue and the wiwwle id ull uwong! Too funny!

I knit those little bags too! Yep, the needles are tiny, but once you have the tension right, they just fly. I used to knit one on long road trips. The beads are all attached so no spillage at high speed corners. They’re easy to do, just small. I think the peach one is my favorite. I love orange anything.

You gave me a choice for Miss Heather’s bird type in an email I have yet to answer… songbird! Miss Heather is a long legged chanteuse! If you’d like to deliver her personally, there’s plenty of room and the weather is still beautiful here… actually getting better as it’s beginning to feel like autumn in the mornings.

Thanks for the link to Top Blog Magazine, I’ll go check them out.

Have a splendid day! I really enjoyed today’s scattered TT!

OK, woman, you outdid yourself with this one:

Covet and love: I WANT the shoes! My hiking boots I wear everywhere deserve a break.

The hokie pokie, I’m grabbing it and playing it while I sort more closets out today. You put the knick knack in you take the kick knack out you put the knick knack in and you know you’ll take it out, That little RV won’t hold it and the big boss, he knows it, that’s what life’s about…

Meme I can’t resist —

A new site to visit, an adorable moose, and MORE SQUARES! And if you keep showing the Birdie, since it grows on you, we will all want one — that’s it, he can make up for whatever he did (the flowers)by making lots to sell for postage and yarn money….heehee

Smile, Shelly, he only got you flowers so we could razz you about it…

Shelly, you crack me up, woman. I can’t believe you’re going to hand-deliver the badminton birdie in person! Or … well, actually, yes, I can believe it.

I could use some of those stress mints… You interested in sharing?

Oh how I wish I could get up and walk around. I’m sitting here with the laptop next to my daughter’s bed waiting FOREVER for her to fall asleep already! My butt has gone completely numb and I am STARVING. Still, this new bedtime routine is making bedtime a lot better, but my goodness she’s taking a long time tonight.

Oh, and the black bag. Definitely the black bag.

Happy TT!
