Do y’all remember the cartoons with Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner? I’ve been thinking about how that coyote pursued the roadrunner with such a passion. The image in my mind is of the times he ran blindly toward that bird and ran smack dab into a wall (or other obstacle), and slid down to a crumpled heap. It was hilarious to see the cartoons, but it loses something in the telling.
If you never saw the cartoons, imagine a dog on a chain ardently watching a squirrel on the fence. All of a sudden, the dog takes off lickety-split towards the squirrel—-until he hits the end of the chain and gets yanked up short. It’s the same thing. It’s about going after a goal with such a force that you don’t see what’s going on around you, and you get blind-sided.
Well, this week I hit my own “wall.” I hit the end of the chain. I know y’all have done it, too. It’s not so funny when there are no sound effects and no laugh tracks, is it? I had too many things on my plate, and I tuckered myself out (so to speak). I couldn’t face the computer, I couldn’t look at Share A Square, I couldn’t do one more thing. I came home from work yesterday and fell in bed to sleep. It was just what I needed.
Now, I’m better. And, just like that coyote, I’m rarin’ to go again. At least, until I hit the next wall.
Come to think of it, I will be going. This week, I get to travel to San Francisco, and then up to Mendocino in California. I get to have a day visiting my youngest son, and then we will go to visit with Eric’s family. That happens this Thursday, and I’m hoping I can blog while there. We will just have to see if I can get an internet connection. I had been hoping we would stay at The Triton Hotel, but the room rates were a little more than we were willing to spend this time. I guess I’ll “suffer” (please note that I am being facetious!).
I had planned to take a book to read on the plane. I had purchased The Lovely Bones, a novel by Alice Sebold. But, I started reading and couldn’t put it down. It was riveting. Since that’s done, I guess I’ll have to find out if I can smuggle a crochet hook on the plane! That’s a dangerous weapon, you know. I could poke my eye out.
I’ve been seeing the image that Leanne made for me floating around on the internet. I’m delighted that people like it well enough to use it. Feel free to take it for your own if you want to share a little link love.

And, it reminds me to tell you about a few of the places I’ve gotten to visit for a brief spell lately.

I told y’all that my friend, Mrs. Teamouse, is plumb crazy, didn’t I? She’s offering a contest to win one knitted dishcloth a month for a year. My husband really wants those dishcloths, so we have to win them for him.

I need your help! I need you to go and comment on her blog, and just say “Shelly sent me.” Cut and paste if you must, but hurry! Other people helped me, why can’t you? You know I’d do this for you! Thank you to the following who were kind to Eric:
If I don’t win those dishcloths, I will be very glum. So will Eric, and you don’t want to see Eric glum.
I told you that you didn’t want to see it. If he doesn’t win those dishcloths, Eric will pack up those dirty dishes and mail them to you! So, hurry on over and comment.
Update:
And, thank you, Robin, for heeding my plea! Eric is looking better already. Patois went, too (but she’s spreading that evil rumor about me whipping people! I swear it isn’t true!). Archshrk even went over there! And, he says that “he does whatever Shelly says!” Hmm. I gotta think about that one, Archshrk—I may have to be careful about what I ask. “The rectangle girl” went too (and I think I know who you are, but since I’m not sure I’ll stay mum). Thanks, folks! I may get Eric his dishcloths yet.
Cindee went over today to comment. Any more of you gonna help me out here? If not, I’ll show you more pics of glum Eric.

Oh dear, we can’t have Eric looking that glum. I’ll have to go over there too.
I’m glad things are looking brighter my friend, and I’m sure that a day with your son will help even more than that good night’s sleep.
PS You just got one more link in your battle with T#chnorati from me - I never realized you weren’t on my blogroll (which is apparently in DIRE need of updating)!
Hmmm.Eric looks like me every morning before I’ve had my coffee (except for the open eyes).
I’ve got more squares done, including some from other volunteers. I just haven’t been able to make it to the post office, yet.
Thank you for the link love. Now take another nap.
Hey Gal,
As I gazed back at the cheerless visage on my monitor this morning (and having taken a side trip to ComedyPlus’s TT) I was reminded of the wisdom of William Claude Dukenfield:
“Start every day with a smile…and get it over with.”
(I find it essential to admit that building up to my initial diurnal expression of joviality is greatly facilitated by being with you.)

‘morning, Shelly!!! Sometimes a bit of good old fashioned sleepy down time is just the ticket. I’m glad you were able to get some rest! Take care of yourself, please.
One afghan complete - will begin working on second one tonight.

omg, that photo is priceless!!!
done and done!
I’ve heard some nasty rumors that you are whipping folks, I had to come over and see if you had flipped your lid! You must have scared folks silly, as they’re coming in droves. Imagine the points you’d accumulate if they entered the contest too….:P
Now I have to confess I love the name Eric and I hate to see a glum Eric - I hope he doesn’t have to start mailing the dirty dishes away or you’ll have to resort to paper plates!
Thank you for flying the banner here. I love seeing those globes a’flyin’! Good luck on your trip and get some rest. Falling in the bed for some sleep sounds like just what I need to do as well. But I’m so excited about BlogBlast I’m finding it hard to sleep.
Peace!
the wine bottle topper arrived yesterday and i really like it! even my husband said “it’s kind of cute” which surprised the hell out of me! thanks again!
I hope you win those!!! Better get hubby some gloves if he is going to be doing all those dishes…lol Don’t want him to have dishpan hands…then he really will be sad!!!!(-:
Isn’t sleep like that the BEST?? Too bad it doesn’t happen often enough!
HA HA HA HA HA! That pic is PRICELESS! May I have it in a poster, please? Actually, I bet that would sell….
I’m glad you got some sleep. You are doing soooo much! (((((HUGS))))) sandi
Don’t tell Eric that, Sandi!! He is crushed that I keep putting his sad pictures on the blog (actually no, he isn’t! He eats the attention up!).~skt
