I can laugh about it now. But, when we walked into our room at the Mendocino Hotel, I was not amused! This was the extent of my “bathroom.”
The toilets and showers were down the hall!
People, people, people!
Do I look like the kind of person who would be OK with sharing bathrooms? If so, look harder! We did enough camping when I was a child that I prefer at least a four star hotel these days. After those vacations having to shower in skanky old KOA bathrooms, I won’t shower in a “public” bathroom without flip flops for my feet. I’m not exactly phobic about germs, but I don’t want someone else’s fungus. I also prefer to “do my business” in private, thank you.
“It is a minor glitch. The room is really quite charming, although tiny. No, no, it’s charming. The sink is pretty. It’s only a sink! At least you have that, Shelly. It is only for one night. A whole night? Can I “hold it” that long? Yes, you can, you’ve done it before.” This was the mantra I chanted while we stayed there. It wasn’t so bad. And, on the up side, I came home and discovered that I can make my closet into a bedroom that is as big as that hotel room!
I’m trying to see “only the good,” and I think I’m doing a fantastic job at it.
Look at the picture, and tell me the good that you see. It isn’t that hard to do. At least, it isn’t if we practice now and then. In fact, I credit this very exercise with helping me stay calm and in control when I saw I didn’t have a dadgum bathroom! OK, I didn’t stay totally calm, but it wasn’t a total rant.
Of course, it didn’t hurt that we had gotten to stay at The Hill House in Mendocino the night before. Its exterior was used as The Hill House of Cabot Cove in the television series called Murder, She Wrote. You can see that they kept one of the signs. That room was spacious AND had a bathroom!
I can tell that you don’t feel the least bit sorry for me.

I did NOT stick anything out!! Oh, you mean staying…well, I did that. But, the next night I requested a room with a bathroom. This was what you get when you allow someone else to book your room! Never, never never!!

‘kay, I know the drill, only the good, so here it is…pretty sink.
Please, oh please, explain it to me!! When is a sink, no matter how cute or quaint or delft blue posied it may be, appropriate in a bedroom? Give me a break! In my mind, it would be like sleeping in a bed with a toilet for a nightstand.

Gads, I hope you didn’t spend more than $29.95 (tax included) for that room. You would have been better off in a Super 8.
To me, roughing it is Motel 6. I’m still shaking my head over this one.
I think they were trying for a look like it might have had back in the 1800s, except that it would have been a “dry sink” in that place with a lovely basin and pitcher. We spend more than that (gulp) and I was pretty appalled by it. Fortunately, we didn’t book the room, so I could take out my “mad” on someone else. That kept me much more civil.~skt
Sharing a bathroom? With strangers? EGADS! No, thanks. The sink in the bedroom does look quaint, I guess. I don’t know..I know it’s supposed to be only the good, but the shared bathroom part really hinders that! LOL
I would have had to check out. I don’t even use public bathrooms in stores or restaurants. Fortunately, I have a very strong bladder

The sink was quite lovely, but you couldn’t even move in the room. Oh, wait…it was a lovely room, and it had a bed and a heater….and a sink. Hey! There was a hair dryer, too! Like what good was THAT gonna do, if I wouldn’t use the public shower?~skt
The number one reason I do not like staying at B & B’s, I do not share well.

Compared to the rest stop bathrooms in CA and AZ, it looks fit for a queen! OK, I like the blue, too… and since this is only the good, I won’t tell you that I would not have been happy sharing a bathroom, that is why I want an RV or to never travel again!
P.S. the TX rest stop we used was pretty awesome though for what it was!

Yeah, I gotta say, I wouldn’t be too keen on the shared bathrooms, myself, and in a HOTEL, nonetheless! I don’t believe I’ve ever come across a hotel with shared bathrooms.
