I’m not a grandmommy yet, but I live vicariously through my sister. She has two lovely tow-headed grandbabies upon whom she dotes constantly, with good reason. She will tell you that they are THE most beautiful grandbabies in the world. I know, I know—you think that yours are, but she would beg to differ. My sister tells me stories of things the kids say that make me laugh, and some stories that curl my hair. All of them make me jealous!
Recently she was driving with my great nieces in the car (and they are pretty great). “Sugarfoot” is six and a very wise child. “Sweetcakes” is three and very inquisitive. Sweetcakes had a look on her face that night that indicated she was pondering a burning question. Then, she asked it!
“Nanna,” said Sweetcakes, “what was I wearing when I was born?” Those girls are very much into fashion trends.
“Weelll, Honey,” said my sister. “You weren’t wearing anything.”
“I mean” said Sweetcakes, “what outfit.”
At this point, Sugarfoot got in on the action. In a matter of fact manner, she announced, “Sweetcakes, you didn’t have any clothes on.”
With a concerned look, Sweetcakes asked, “Not even my pants?”
“Nope,” said Sugarfoot.
“Not even my shirt?” asked Sweetcakes, obviously growing distraught.
Exasperated now, Sugarfoot said, “Sweetcakes, you didn’t even have any panties on! You were naked and covered in blood!”
Alarmed at that answer, my sister cried, “Sugarfoot! Where did you hear that?”
With a smile of satisfaction, Sugarfoot announced, “Nanna, THAT’S why I watch Grey’s Anatomy.”
Go ahead. I know you are dying to tell it. What cute things have the urchins in your life said lately?

Ahahahahaha - LOVE it! I love hearing/reading things that children say. I even wrote my own version of “Kids say the darndest things”.

Kids really do say the darndest things! My cousin’s daughter Brainiac is famous for these “outbursts”. She’s 7 (or 8 maybe) now, so they are becoming less and less, but she still comes out with some doozies!

One of my favorite stories from when the kids were little was with Daughter #2. I had made Rice A Roni and when she tried it, she had a funny look on her face.
I said “What’s the matter, Sam, don’t you like it?”
She thought for a second and said…”I like the rice but I’m not so crazy about the ronis”….LOL I almost fell off the chair!!!
Those days are long gone, but every once in a while, I still get a doozy. My son was watching TV and a commercial for Hilton hotels came on. He looked at me and said “Tell me those idiots named a hotel after Paris”.
Imagine my delight in trying to convince him that she was only famous because her last names IS Hilton….LOL

That is too cute!! I guess my husband’s grandson never really thought about the specifics of relationships before. One day he was discussing his “Oma” with his mom and somehow the topic came up that his Oma and his “Papere” (my husband) were at one time married. When she tried to explain to him that they had gotten divorced and he had remarried me….his words were…what the heck are we hanging out with them for then?? hahahahahaha
I can totally relate to your sister and the grandkids. TOTALLY! My two younger grandkids (along with their parents and their 16-year-old half-sister) live with me so I get to watch the two little ones while there mother works and of course, am with them every day anyway. And trust me when I tell you this, grandchild SOOOO Rock! They are the bestest thing ever! My neighbor used to tell me “If I’d known grandkids were so great, I’d have had them first.” Boy, do I agree with that. They are sooo darned much better, cuter, smarter, craftier too -you name it -than the first edition was! Gotta love ‘em for sure!
Funny - MY oldest grandson’s (he’s 15) nickname from me is Sweetcake.
I’m the only one who can call him that, though.
And, MY 7 grandkids are the best, brightest, funniest, most loving grandkids in the world . . .
. . . . that I could ever hope to have.
That’s the way I say it, anyway.
Fondest remembered story about my sweetcake was when he was about 3 and we took him to story time at the local library. The reader was asking the kids their favorite berries - he listened patiently to everyone and then when Mama tried to help him come up with a berry - strawberry, cranberry, etc. - he kept shaking his head.
Well, S____ what IS your favorite berry? we all asked.
he looked at us oh, so innocently and said in a very firm voice . . .
