Because I’m Crazy

Someone didn’t get the memo. Or, the “meme-o,” as it were. I prefer not to do “memes.” I talk about me-me-me all the time anyway. But, Crank Mama passed one to me, and she’s a sweetheart, so just for her I’ll crank this one out (I just wanted to use a pun). That doesn’t mean I’m fair game. You can go here to see Crank Mama’s Crazy Eights.

These are My Crazy Eights:

8 Things I’m Passionate About:

Well, lemme see. In no particular order, that would be Mr. Tucker, Share A Square, bacon (the crispier the better), liver (I hate it, but “hate” is a passion, isn’t it?), The Closer, prejudice (another thing I can’t stand), coffee (strong enough to put hair on your chest), and Habitat for Humanity. Oh, and I passionately hate the new way that Blogger makes those of us on Word Press comment, but that’s another post (and it makes nine, anyway).

8 Things I Want To Do Before I Die:

Oh my, let me think. Umm. Well, I have a whole wish list on this blog, but I don’t make it easy to find. If I have to pick eight, it’s: pay off the Visa bill (it’ll never happen); have a meal cooked for me by Emeril (so I can hear him say “Bam!”); learn how to say more in Spanish than “No tengo muchas palabras del español en mi cabeza.”; visit New York City (I just want to see it…when there isn’t a strike so I can experience a Broadway play!); live in San Francisco (OMG, don’t let there be an earthquake! I like to “feel the earth move” but not in that way! And, don’t you know the locals will love this Texas accent?); kiss the blarney stone (’cause I’d really like to be good with the blarney!); stand in a field filled with Monarch butterflies, just to feel the magic; and ride an elephant (or ellylump, as my children used to call it).

8 Things I Often Say:
Geesh! This is harder to crank out than I thought! Here they are: “Please put the toilet seat down!”; “Close the door, were you born in a barn?”; “Can’t anybody turn the lights out?”; “OMG, I AM my mother!”; “President Bush is NOT a Native Son of Texas, don’t blame him on US!”; “I NEED a large mocha!”; “No tengo muchas palabras del español en mi cabeza.”; and “Where are my dadgum glasses?” Oh, dang, that’s all so embarrassing!

8 Books I’ve Recently Read (Or Am Still Reading):

I don’t get much time to read anymore! Here’s what’s on the table beside my bed (I’ve read most of them and enjoyed them all):Cash by Johnny Cash; Stop Dressing Your Six-Year-Old Like A Skank by Celia Rivenbark; Possible Side Effects by Augusten Burroughs; The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold; Bonita Faye by Margaret Moseley; The Tipping Point, by Malcolm Gladwell; Stop Negotiating With Your Teen by Janet Sasson Edgette. Boring, eh? Well, I didn’t tell you about the trash novels I read, because I’m trying to sound intelligent! Did it work?

8 Songs I Could Listen To Over And Over:
This could change at any second, because I love music. I’ve set up links so you can go and listen (and watch) on YouTube.
Hurt by Johnny Cash; Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits (I’ve had a secret crush on Mark Knopfler for thirty years, but don’t tell anybody); The Dark Night Of The Soul by Loreena McKennitt; Ave Maria by Pavarotti ; Dangerous Mood by Keb Mo; Crazy by Patsy Cline; Angel from Montgomery by Bonnie Raitt; Tubthumping by Chumbawamba. It’s actually my “theme song” right now, so I’ll put it here:

8 Things That Attract Me To My Best Friends:
That would be: witty repartee; a wicked sense of humor; compassion; artsy-fartsiness (it’s not a word, but I like it, anyway); a varied vocabulary; eclectic interests; the ability to listen (’cause the good Lord knows I love to talk!); honesty; tactfulness.

8 People I Think Should Do Crazy Eights:
Well, I’m not going to force anyone to do this! You can if you want to, and I’ll link you here. But, since it’s time for some blog housekeeping, let me do a little link love.
My links on my blogroll are more than six months old (most of them), and as you know, Technorati lets them drop off of your link list when they get old. Ageism! I hate it. So I’m just going to list them here. I don’t know how to use the “read more” feature, so just skip it if you want. Sorry. If you think you belong on there, and you aren’t, just give me a shout. I’ve been crazy lately. Again, sorry.

You are absolutely right, I didn’t get the meme-o. Thanks for playing along in spite of that!

And I love knowing more about you - I’ll be checking out the books you’re reading, can’t believe I left Patsy Cline off of my list, know they’ll love your accent in SF, and totally agree that the new Blogger commenting sucks for all of us on WP.

I think we should all have an international every 6 months re-publish our blog roll day!! That would be the only post we made that day.

Interesting choices in some of your lists, Shelly…

Just one thing, doesn’t Mr. Tucker, that handsome man, deserve a link to his photo? After all, BACON got one…. grin

Hello, I am sure that you will be speaking good spanish in a few time. “No tengo mas palabras de español en mi cabeza” is better to say ” No comprendo español” o “Comprendo muy poco español” o “No hablo español” well you have just received your first spanish lesson. grin
My best wishes for you in these holidays. God bless you.

Can I join you in San Francisco? Went there to visit last fall and I fell in love! Love, love, love it! The thing that sticks out to me is that the people are living freedom.

Cheers,
