Lemon Twist

by Shelly Kneupper Tucker on February 13, 2008

As I ordered a diet coke at a restaurant, my friend turned up her nose in disgust. She sanctimoniously ordered water, with a twist of lemon.

When our drinks arrived, she gave me a very pointed look as she squeezed her lemon into her drink and began to sip. She then proceeded to lecture me for the next ten minutes, “You drink too many diet sodas. You know it isn’t healthy for you, blah, blah, blah. You ought to drink more water! You can make it taste better by putting lemon in it.”

I quoted W.C. Fields to her, “I never drink water because of the disgusting things that fish do in it.”

She rolled her eyes.

I can hardly wait to show her this video, so she can see what restaurants do to her lemon!

YUCK! I waitressed my way through college and I’m not surprised at all by any of these restaurant horror stories. I’ve seen food dropped on rather disgusting floors and picked up and put on plates, back on the grill, etc. I guess they had that “5 second rule” in some of the places that I worked!

I don’t think there’s anyway to really protect yourself from these germs. They are everywhere.

Yeah, I was pretty sickened years ago when I heard that my favorite restaurant had been closed down. I loved to go there to eat the pork ribs…until the restaurant inspectors found an employee trying to break apart a rack of ribs by beating it on the floor!

I’m sorta a germ-a-phobe, so just one more thing to think about.
I heard a young girl (patient where I worked) telling someone, that she spit in someones food that ticked her off. Would have reported her to health department but she wasn’t working in food industry anymore thank god. It cured me of ever complaining about anything as far as food in a restaurant. If I were to complain, I’d do it then leave, will never give someone a chance to do that to me.

 Probably a smart move not to tick the wait staff off! I always examine my food carefully looking for signs of spit!

I am NOT watching that video, because I’m a lemon water kind of girl. (when it’s not wine or beer  )

You don’t have to watch…it’s all about fecal matter  Sorry. Just wanted you to know, because I’m evil.

ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww – thanks for the visual.

I’m a lemon with water gal, too. BUT . . . those same hands with all that bacteria are the same hands that served your food too – so diet soda isn’t gonna protect us, either. Dratitall!

still – you are helping me with the desire not to eat brekkies this morning so I can go have the desired blood work done.

Anything I can do to help…you know I love to destroy your appetite. “Desired blood work?” Whose desire??

Dang, woman!

Isn’t it enough that you’re drinking DIET Coke?

What do you have to do to please some people?

I hate water vs diet Coke snobs.

Yes, John, and if I were drinking Diet, Caffeine Free Coke, it would be a “placebo.” It’s all wet, and that’s all that matters

Oh my dear God. How could I still be alive. Ilove how she said, “No cause for alarm…”
About that diet coke — you now that artificial sweetners make you fat… proven, scientifically.

Danged if you do and danged if you don’t! I guess I should just have a beer

Oh my. You should see me eating seafood. Lots of lemon. Well, no more. That was downright gross. Ewwwwwwwwwwww. Have a great day and pass the diet soda. :)

BYOL.
Bring you own lemon??

Oh my. I really don’t like sodas of any kind and truly enjoy lemon water. Guess it’s good that I have an immune system that could fight off the plague.

I’ll send you a “get well card”….

I wouldn’t order lemon water in a restaurant either but plain coke would do me just fine. There was something on the new other night about sugar substitutes actually making people gain weight and not being terribly health (the aspertaine)…ciao

Oh, Rositta, for any study that says one thing, you can find one to negate it. I figure that all I can do is just eat what I want and hope it doesn’t kill me.

Yikes! I ALWAYS ask for lemon. Squeeze it. Drop it in my drink. Who knew? UGH!

I have done that, too. I won’t be doing that anymore! EVER!

But do they treat the rest of the food better than the lemons?

Well, NO! So, I guess we should just eat what we want.

UGH!!!! I drink ice tea with lemon all the time…as you know in Texas it’s the water here! Guess I won’t be from now on!!! :???:

I would definitely pass on it! Bring your own from home, if you have to have lemon!

I am soooo glad I am a PEPSI kind of gal. (Regular, no diet, please)

When I worked at Denny’s Restaurant long ago, I was appalled at the sanitary of the dishes and food. UGH! It was disgusting.

I would imagine that working food service might kill your appetite fast! I don’t do Pepsi…gimme Coca Cola

I’m not watching that video either ;-)

Why do friends (or anyone, really) feel the need to do that? Holier than thou is not fun…

You don’t need to watch it…as long as you don’t use the lemons

Diet softdrinks for me – no water with bacteria wedges, please! Thanks for sharing this info. I’m telling all my tea drinking friends who always want “more lemons please.”

Go ahead and tell your friends, Rhonda, but some people just don’t listen. I shared this with my friend, and she just shook her head. Go figure!

EWWW, EWWW, Ewww…well, that just turned me off water in restaurants for life. Guess I’ll have to stick to wine, alcohol kills off germs anyway, right?

Maybe better go for the REAL hard liquor, or just drink from the bottle
