This is another one of those posts that I do where anything that pops into my head goes through my fingers to the post. My mind is unable to focus very well right now, because so much is happening in my mundane little world.

Life is just steamrolling right over me these days. I’ve been all caught up in the real world and it is seriously hampering my ability to blog hop. I miss getting to see you, but I’ve been having to think about work! In fact, I’m practicing my Irish accent for a gig tomorrow. Y’all didn’t know that an Irish accent could come out of my mouth, did you? It wouldn’t fool anyone from Ireland (though I convinced a woman from England once), but I have those little Texas kids snowed.
Speaking of snow.
Do y’all remember me telling you about the snow on my birthday? We had quite a cold spell for awhile. It was chilly, which is the time of year to make chili! I told y’all my “secret” for chili and had you take a survey on whether you wanted beans or no beans in your chili. For awhile there, it was sixty-farty in favor of beans (I’m sorry, I’m such a toot that I couldn’t resist that one). Now, it seems that 69% of you favor beans in your chili. Get out the Beano.
The weather around here changed, of course, because this is Texas. Yesterday (one week after our 7 inches of snow) I worked in my yard in shorts! White pasty legs! Now, that’s a scary story!
Speaking of scary stories.
Do you have one? I hope you noticed that I have a writing contest going on right now. The theme is “Scared Silly,” but that’s just a prompt. It doesn’t have to be a ghost story. As Damien said in a comment, “’scary’ can have so many levels. Losing a child for 20 minutes in a grocery store for example can be just as scary as a bogie man on a lake vacation.” Jessica the Rock Chick is planning to enter, and she is an excellent writer, but don’t let that deter you! I know you have something to say. This is your chance to win cold hard cash.
Speaking of cold hard cash.
Y’all may have noticed those ads on my sidebar for BlogHer. Then again, maybe you are blind to the advertisement. Those ads are what pay the rent for my blog (well, almost). Once a year, BlogHer has a reader survey to try to help marketers determine “who you are,” so they can place ads on our sites that might intrigue you. BlogHer has asked us to tell our readers about it. If you take the survey, you might win a ticket to the BlogHer event of your choice. If you take the survey, you might help me be able to afford to keep telling you stories.

Speaking of telling you stories.
Yesterday’s interlude in the yard was exactly what the doctor ordered. I had been feeling burned out, but the exercise and the peacefulness of just being outside rejuvenated me. I have several posts in mind for the coming days. I’ll be telling you about a local Denton landmark; I’ll have an interview with Damien Riley (the judge of the writing contest); I’ve got a post in the works about bacon; and I’ll be asking some questions of you about your ideas on “blogrolls.” I need you to share some of your wisdom.
Speaking of wisdom.
My teenage stepson is having his wisdom teeth pulled this afternoon. It’s not a laughing matter, but I can’t help thinking that “teenage” and “wisdom” in the same sentence is a bit of an oxymoron. He’ll be suffering, but he isn’t much of a whiner.
Speaking of whining.
I don’t wanna have to go work (hear a nine year old’s voice saying those words, because that’s how I sound). But, I have a list in front of me, so I’d better get cracking.
Y’all make it a good day. Use your powers for good.

but I enjoy your hodge podge posts! They are so like how my mind works!
Hope things go smoothly for your stepson!
I’ve gotten outside the last few days to enjoy the warmer weather, and I SWEAR, I’m like a new person now!

Oh, then sweetie, we are in the same sad boat. Stepson is doing well, but totally knocked out. His daddy has to change the packing…there’s blood! Ick! Yes, that being outside is surely good for the soul.
