I’m Afraid It’s All About Me

I don’t do ” me-me-me memes” very often, but my friend SusieJ recently e-mailed me to tell me to do this one. I always do what SusieJ says. Why, if she told me to jump off a cliff…

…I’d find a very short cliff.

This Links Around The World meme got passed to her by Tracey Clark, who got it from Green Eyed Mama. I’ll give it to anyone who wants it, and we can swap it around. Wanna play?

The rules say to put a picture of yourself (I think it’s supposed to be a self portrait) in the post and then list seven things about yourself, followed by all the links to other bloggers. I think it didn’t start originally with a self-portrait involved, and I don’t often put pictures of myself in the posts. I avoid the camera whenever possible, because cameras are not kind to me.

Susie put a picture of herself first thing in the morning. How brave is that? She could get away with it, because even without makeup she’s gorgeous. I don’t know if I’m courageous enough to do that.

Hmm.

No, I’m afraid not. But, I’ll put this one on the page, if you promise you won’t show it to anyone.

I’ve told you nearly every doggone thing about me there is to know, but let me see if I can come up with something new. Stop me if I’ve told you this before:

SEVEN THINGS ABOUT ME

  1. Because of an ear infection when I was an itty bitty girl, I don’t hear very well (I hear the volume, but can’t “separate sounds”). When I’m having a conversation, I read lips. That doesn’t work so well here in Texas, because Native Texans are often “lazy speakers.” We slur words together (as in “I mona put ‘at ovaire” to mean “I’m going to put that over there.”). If you notice me staring at your mouth when you talk, don’t be afraid.
  2. I use that inability to hear to my advantage. I am “selectively deaf,” and hear only what I want to hear (as in “Mom, can I borrow the car keys?” “Sorry, I’m afraid I can’t hear you.”)
  3. I love all God’s critters, even most humans…well except for Poodle dogs, but that’s another story (you can see me tell it here if you have RealPlayer installed). Sometimes I love too much. My Momma always told about the time I caught a toad and was so excited when I showed it to her that I squeezed it, and its guts came out its mouth. If I try to hug you, be afraid.
  4. I collect “hands,” and have them all over my house. Not real hands of course! Wooden ones, glass ones, even one carved from graphite. I’m not sure why, but people’s hands fascinate me, because I think they tell me a lot about a person. My own hands are suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, and are slowly crippling. For that reason, I don’t like to shake hands. But, I’ll hug you.
  5. I adore ghost stories! In fact, I go places looking for real live ghosts. I’ll be in Boerne, Texas again in a couple of weeks searching for ghosts at Ye Kendall Inn (I told about ghosts in Boerne last year, too).
  6. I’m really not afraid of very many things. Except trying to work with computer technology. Come to think of it, I’m afraid of driving in the rain. Oh, and syringe needles. I guess clowns are a bit frightening, too. And, Brussells sprouts. Yes, Brussells sprouts.
  7. I have the ability to cry on command. Yes, I can. Daddy called those tears “crocodile tears.” I can call up tears in a heartbeat. It’s easy. All I have to do is think about those adorable, tiny skirts in my closet that I bought when I was at my “divorce weight” (and into which this lard butt will never fit again!).

I use this wonderful skill sometimes when I’m telling stories to an audience. I’ve been known to frighten my friends with my tears when they tease me. Those tears start rolling down my cheeks, and they think they have really done something wrong. Shoot! I shouldn’t have told y’all that! Now, it isn’t going to work on you, is it?

Now it’s your turn. I won’t tag you, but I double dog dare you. No, I triple dog dare you to show your face. Then come tell me about it. At the bottom of the post, you have to add the links below. Put the link to your blog (all twelve of them if you want) at the bottom and pass it on. Come back and tell me, and I’ll add you to this list.

Y’all have a good day and play nice, you hear?

Thanks for playing

I love brussel sprouts, but I promise not to mail you any - and I accept your triple dog dare… but later, have work to do and a CPA to sweet talk first. I hope you can read lips fast, because I talk a mile a minute!

Marcia’s last blog post..Earth Hour

I respect your right to love brussels sprouts….and appreciate your thoughtfulness in not sending me any. Do that, and I’ll mail you five cats. Come sweet talk MY CPA! I can read lips pretty fast, but I don’t process thoughts quickly.

Shelly, I LUV that picture of you. You’re purdy. Too bad about the hearing thing… just too bad. I used to get ear infections, and man, did they hurt. I lost my ability to cry on demand. I could use that skill. I’m adding you to the list.

You’re a doll, Susie. The hearing isn’t all that horrible a problem. It’s just that if voices are really low or really high it starts all blending together. I don’t know why that is. And, yes, that ability to get tearful can be a wonderful asset. Think about the delicious skirts in my closet and how you pity my lard butt. Maybe it will work for you, too. lol

Oh I don’t do pictures either. I will have to pass on this game(-: I guess you would be able to tell a lot about me with my missing partial finger…lol(-: I usually have fake nails but took them off for a while. I think my hands look much better with fake nails(-: I have arthitis in my left hand. Weird just my left hand. I think thats because I had that trauma to the right one. I can’t hear well either. See we have a lot in common…LOL(-: I had a lot of ear infections when I was little too. It drives my husband nuts which is fun I think. I can’t hear you….What did you say?????

Cindee’s last blog post..Looking for a Mate

Look at some of the others who did pics, Cindee. You could do one only showing part of your face. I did the fake nails (tips?) for awhile. It got to be too much trouble. And, it’s expensive! I decided if I had to choose between designer coffee and fake nails….it was coffee (hands down, so to speak). lol

Can you cry a few tears for the jeans in my “jeans’ museum? You look very pretty in green.

So when I move to Arkansas in a few years, I won’t spaz when you look at my lips, but you better be quick, us New Englanders like to get it out fast…LOL

Have a great week, I will be back to blogging as soon as my ibook gets fixed. All is good in life here, just working a ton of hours.

Happy Birthday! I know it’s around about now, but I didn’t write it on my calendar. I hope things are going well with you!! I miss you.. And, I’ll cry for you blue jeans. I so feel your pain. Tears are streaming right now…
