Did y’all ever wake up one morning, and think to yourself, “Self, you ought to make a podcast!”?
I hadn’t either until a few weeks ago. I got to thinking that I’ve had this Apple computer for about a year, and haven’t even begun to explore all the “bells and whistles” on it. I have this thing called “Garage Band,” and I knew I could make an MP3 on it — well, I knew other people could make an MP3. I figured that if they could, then I could figure it out.
This whole idea was as worrisome as a hangnail. You know how you start to chew on it, and can’t get ahold of it? So, you keep on pulling and tearing until you finally get it gnawed loose? That’s how it was.
I got a test podcast made, but I couldn’t figure out how to upload it to my blog. It took a couple of weeks of reading and experimenting until I finally found a plug-in that would make a little icon come up on the screen that you can click to make it play. In fact, I tried several plug-ins, but the only one that worked was the Anarchy Media Player (and it works for blogging platforms other than WordPress, too!).
I’ve made a test recording of one of my favorite posts, a post that I have to re-read to myself regularly. It’s my attempt at Philosophy With A Texas Twang. Now I don’t quite have it ready to put out there for you to hear. I’m still experimenting to see if I can put music in the background, and I would like to record it again to try to get less background noise. I’m a virgi novice at this. I don’t have a fancy microphone that muffles the background noise. If you hear a “Meow,” it’s just my entourage. If you hear the toilet flush, that’s Mr. Tucker making his own brand of subtle commentary on my work.
So join me on Thursday, as I celebrate my “bloggiversary” with a podcast. I’ll be beginning my third year of blogging. I think that a podcast will be a good way to start the New Year. I figure that y’all need a voice in your head to go with my words, because when I write my posts I pretend that we are sittin’ on the front porch, talkin’ together and sippin’ iced tea and droppin’ consonants at every opportunity.

Good. For. You. Now that has to be a wonderful feeling of accomplishment.

I do feel like I accomplished something! I never thought I could do it. Happy New Year to you.
Oh my gosh, Shelly, I couldn’t figure out garage band to podcast. I did a podcast through an online service once, but wanted to use garage band instead. I’ll just fly in so you can teach me as soon as I get over my fear of flying. I could send Leon or just read the directions, I suppose.
Way to go girl! Yes, I agree with Jamie, please, tell us stories.

Well, making the recording was no big deal (there is a video). But, I still haven’t figured out adding a music track behind my words, like when Mr. Tucker plays guitar & I tell stories. The hardest part was finding that little plug-in that will work to make the “player.” Otherwise, I had to use a url link, and it went to a new tab to load it. Heck, YOU can do anything…I don’t know why you would ask ME!
