A New Addiction For My Muse: Facebook

by Shelly Kneupper Tucker on January 19, 2009

I told y’all that my Muse has been recalcitrant lately. All she wants to do is play mahjong. At least, that’s all she wanted until Jessica The Rock Chick corrupted her.

Jessica had back surgery, and stopped blogging for awhile. Every time I e-mailed her, she answered me on Facebook. She couldn’t sit up to blog, but she could write on Facebook with a hand-held device (no not that one!).

I admit I had a Facebook account…did y’all get one of those? I set it up ten months ago and never used it, because I just didn’t “get” it.

Anyway, Jessica made me look at it, and sure enough I got hooked. I’ve added nieces & nephews, blogging friends, storytelling buddies, and even folks I knew in High School! I’ve joined groups and found some pictures to upload. I’ve added my Posterous feed to it. I’m chompin’ at the bit to do more. I haven’t figured out this “flair” stuff yet, but I probably will. Next thing you know I’ll be throwing virtual cupcakes, coffee, and martinis at everybody.

Come visit me on Facebook
and be my friend (doesn’t that sound pathetic?). That’s about the only writing my Muse will let me do right now. Maybe she can get the silliness out of her system so I can get back in the business of writing this blog. Or not.

Meanwhile, Shelly Tucker is…hooked on Facebook.

OK, I’ll take a look and hope I don’t get the fever. It sounds dangerous.

It IS addictive. Be very afraid.

I have had a facebook account for a while also… and it lays dormant as I can’t figure it out. Now I’m afraid to try… another adiction for me may make the hubby even more grumpy than he already is.

Nah. Your husband will love it, because you will be all giggly reading what your friends have to say. Get HIM a Facebook account

Sorry honey, but I can’t add one more thing to my blogging list. I’m thinking about removing a few that are too time consuming. Have fun though.

Have a terrific day. Big hug. :)

I don’t see how you keep up with what you do. I don’t blame you!

Dark side indeed! I’m trying to add my blog to a network on Facebook. I need 9 people to confirm that it’s mine (and if I have 10 people who “fan” it, I can be on the network feed. I’ll scratch YOUR back if you scratch mine. Wouldja, buddy?

Marcia January 19, 2009 at 5:44 pm

That’s what that confirmation thing is? Oops, I need to go confirm someone for them… I totally don’t understand Facebook, I joined but just stare at the page occasionally.

You will figure it out before I will. There is a bunch I just don’t understand on it.

I have a facebook account as well but rarely check it. I also find it too complicated for me. I check out the grand kids every occasionally…ciao

 At least the grandkids let you check up on them! Imagine if they wouldn’t “friend” you???

Thorne January 19, 2009 at 6:40 pm

OMG!! Get thee behind me, Facebook!!!
I too fell prey to the addiction. I’m going over there to friend you, but please don’t expect me to accept apps. I’m quitting! Talk about time consuming, facebook is a freaking black hole! LOL

It is evil, but I like it

Uh oh, I’ve corrupted another one!!! ;) My sister hounded me for months to join Facebook and I kept putting it off. It just didn’t sound like anything I really wanted, or needed to do. Well, I did it and it wasn’t all that fun until people I hadn’t seen in ages started crawling out of the woodwork!!! See, I don’t find it to be a black hole at all, I find it fascinating. It’s kind of like mini-blogging to me!!! The more you do it, the more fun it is!!!

Flair is just little buttons that people send. You just stick them onto the background. It’s nothing really, but it’s one of the fun things about Facebook!!!

By the way, I got the virtual coffee you sent!!! It was delicious!!!

I’d rather give you real coffee, but you would have to come here. Facebook is going to be my downfall and it is all YOUR fault.

patois January 20, 2009 at 9:05 am

I’ve got the account, all right, but I try to avoid visiting. I already ignore my husband and children too much.

I pulled away from facebook awhile back… I’ve been into twittering more. Love to see all the faces that come up on my twitterrific at one time… including yours, Shelley.

You could link the two together (did you know you can do that?). Then go crazy trying to keep up with both!

Jamie January 20, 2009 at 4:59 pm

I sent you a friend request so please don’t reject me (pathetic meet pathetic) lol

I would never reject you. Would you reject me? Don’t answer.

Chris January 22, 2009 at 10:27 pm

Hi Shelly, I’ve met you via Marcia. I am also one who gets overwhelmed with all the busyness of Facebook. I also have a teenage son who I have to keep tabs that he doesn’t become friends with stalkers and kidnappers on his facebook He’s learning that what you put out in cyber space reverberates. We had a bad scare recently because of his innocent postings.

On a lighter side there is a funny, funny youtube video called Facebook Fever. I’ll copy the youtube url, I’m not sure if you can click to see it.

Hi Chris…I’m sorry, your comment went to spam! Both times  I never think to watch for real comments anymore. I shall go and watch that video (you know you are only enabling my addiction!). I know what you mean about having to watch the kids. You also have to make sure about the language they are using on their personal blogs! Future employers and colleges will see every blasted #%*&^## they say! Thanks for dropping by!
