Blushing From Head To Toe–And Passing It On.

by Shelly Kneupper Tucker on January 25, 2009

I’m as embarrassed as a possum up a plum tree! I always get that way when people say nice things about me. Momma didn’t teach me how to accept compliments, and I’ve never done it well.

Last week, in one single day, I was bestowed two different awards (by two of my favorite blogging buddies). My head swelled up so that I look like Charlie Brown! I’m having a hard time getting through the doorways around here. But, I expect that I’ll be telling stories to 6th graders soon, who will cut me right back down to size. But, thank you ladies, for your kind recognition!

fabulousblogawardsandee My friend Mo at Inside Mo’s Mind gave me this award. She said, “I just like the way her Texas mind thinks!” I’m just grateful that anybody thinks I think! Boy howdy, I have her fooled. But, the rules of this meme confound me a bit. She said:

According to the rules of the award,
you must list your 5 addictions
and then pass it on to 5 deserving bloggers
to do the same.

Does this mean I’m supposed to pick 5 fabulous bloggers — or 5 people who deserve to have to name their addictions?

I dunno. And, I don’t know why anyone in the world should be made aware of my addictions! Heck, if you have been by here before it’s easy to spot mine: BACON, blogging, coffee, chocolate, and Fritos dipped in applesauce (ok, I’m secretive about that one). I have other addictions, too. But, when I listed something similar to this on Facebook, I quoted Hoppalong Cassidy. Remember him? If not, don’t shove your “youth” into my face! About those other addictions: “That comes under the heading of my business.”

For 5 deserving bloggers, my job is not so easy! Every blogger I read deserves the moniker of “Fabulous.” I don’t know if any of them, however, deserve to be told to list their addictions! I just hate having to pick, because it always makes me feel like I’m in High School choosing teams for a game of dodge ball. But, choose I must…so here goes:

  1. Jessica the Rock Chick at Life is Rantastic who delights me with her sense of humor as she tells stories of stalking Bon Jovi, breaking out her “cat boots,” and life on Hysteria Lane.
  2. Janeywan at Life in Westcliffe, who always interests me with her stories of Colorado and the interesting photos she shares.
  3. Candid Karina, whose bright personality adds a sparkle to my day. She just makes me want to adopt her — or at the very least grab her and give her a hug.
  4. Carol at A Letter To Me, a delightful blogger, with a warm heart, who makes me feel as if we are having coffee together.
  5. Thorne at Thorne’s World, a passionate blogger who delights in life and being a little on the raucous side.

mimosaThen, Jamie (who is the blogger I want to be when I grow up –if I grow up) at Duward Discussion gave me The Mimosa Award. It was begun by “Mary The Teach at Work of the Poet who based them on Panton’s signature color for the year described as follows:

“The color yellow exemplifies the warmth and nurturing quality of the sun, properties we as humans are naturally drawn to for reassurance,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Mimosa also speaks to enlightenment, as it is a hue that sparks imagination and innovation.”

Mary created a MIMOSA AWARD for bloggers who epitomize hope and reassurance every day in their blogs.

Whoo. That sounds pretty lofty!

These are my picks:

  • Robin at Around The Island for her inspiring photographs, her amazing stories, and her optimism. She makes me look at the world with new eyes.
  • Marcia at RV Poetry, who graces my life with her lovely words, her avid support, and her kind heart. She is the inspiration for the Only The Good Friday, and her idea for “only the good” has changed my attitude!
  • Michelle at Bleeding Espresso, who dreamed of a beautiful new life in Italy and had the courage to make it happen. She is not only a fantastic cook and wonderful travel guide; she is a lawyer who likes lawyer jokes!
  • Kacey at Wine On The Keyboard, a generous “boomer blogger” who shares lovely photos, stories, links and more.
  • Frances at BlogJem for her tremendous support of fellow bloggers through starting the group SheWhoBlogs.

Y’all can pass those along, if you do things like that. As for me, I’m going to go drink a mimosa and ponder the meaning of life. If I figure it out, I’ll let you know.

Thank you! Can I join you with that Mimosa?? Maybe we WILL discover the meaning of life…or at least why the phone rings as soon as we step in the shower…or why the camera battery dies when the perfect shot appears. You know, deep questions in life.

Oops. I drank them all….but we can try again another day. I love the things you wonder about. Think of all the deep questions we could ask if we had Mimosas together. Mind boggling, isn’t it?

Yum, I love mimosas! Thank you Shelly, I’m really touched.

And you even called me an optimist! Hang on a second, would you? Jay? Check this out, Shelly just said I’m an optimist! *thunk* Jay? Jay? Hello? Oh my god, he just passed out!

Dang! I didn’t mean to do that to Jay. If you’d like, I can go strike through that remark…or you can just tell Jay, “Shelly’s a storyteller–she makes things up.”
