Luxurious Accommodations. Only The Good Friday

by Shelly Kneupper Tucker on January 30, 2009

When I walked in the door

Do any of y’all travel for business? This is NOT what I usually see when I walk in the door of a hotel room! On my last trip to Beaumont, Texas I got lucky.

Usually, I wind up staying in a hotel that is only “adequate.” Since I am working in schools, I’m done with my day by 3:00 most of the time. I spend quite a bit of time staring at rather depressing walls. It’s not very inspiring for the artist in me.

I work for Young Audiences of Southeast Texas when I am there. It’s a non-profit organization which pairs artists with schools and community functions. Without them, there are many kids in the area who would never experience the performing arts.

It seems that Young Audiences has a benefactor with a condominium near downtown Beaumont, and I got to stay there! I’m telling you, getting to come “home” to a state of the art kitchen

Inspiration to cook

a beautifully decorated bedroom

A bed fit for a Queen

A sitting room in the bedroom

and a whirlpool tub spoiled me terribly!

Whirlpool bath

Those brick walls were the original on the old building which I’m told was once a bordello! I’ll bet those walls had some stories, if they could talk!

My luxury accommodations were not the best part of this story. Because that benefactor was kind enough to donate lodging, Young Audiences was able to use the money they would have spent on a hotel to hire another performing artist this year. That means that kids get more programs and artists get more work!

That’s what I have for you on
Only The Good Friday
. It’s the one day of the week that I will not post my snarky little comments. I invite you to join me, if you would like. We really can change our attitudes if we practice.

You can write about anything you think is “good.” Tell about something in your corner of the world that makes you happy … or tell us about a “cause” that you support … write about a good book or music that pleases you … or tell about that chocolate covered bacon you made (and make me drool!). Anything goes, as long as it’s good. Maybe we can spread an “optimism virus” on the internet.

If you don’t want to post about it, just leave me a comment and tell me something good in your day. Then go out and look at the world with new eyes, so you can see Only The Good. At least try to remember that it’s not all bad!

Great room Shelly. It’s really a good Friday, I am working today after lunch. I didn’t get the job I wanted but I am working at least 2 days a week and today is one of them. Yeah! Have a good Friday.

I hope your Friday is wonderful, too!

Wow, it’s not hard to see the good when you have such amazing accommodations! Just like it’s easy to see the good when I’m living in California and it’s going to be in the 80′s today. Nice and sunny, just the way that I like it. :)

I sort of envy the 80s, but that will come around soon enough! Hope your weekend is wonderful!

Wow, that’s one classy place. I’ve always loved Young Audiences – some inner city kids would never be exposed to the arts any other way…

It was indeed quite classy. And very generous of the woman to donate, especially since it’s hard to find hotel rooms in Beaumont these days–people are still displaced from the hurricane. Young Audiences is awesome.

What an exciting place to stay… this really is a good day for you.

I can’t resist in telling you how beautiful today is. The sun is shining and the Temp. is above freezing. A day like this reminds me that Spring is not far off…

Everyone is pining for spring. That’s allergy season, you know  But, a beautiful day that is above freezing IS good. I hope you enjoy a weekend full of such weather!

It is a GREAT Friday! I just made the best soup of my life. The only hardship is waiting ’til tomorrow to eat it after all the flavors have a chance to meld overnight. I know it’s worth waiting for but I haven’t had dinner yet and it tastes so good already! Oh, the dilemmas. May all Fridays be this difficult!

I love soup! And, I agree that the overnight sit usually makes them better. That means Saturday will be good, too! Have a great weekend!

On this Only The Good Friday, it is GOOD that tomorrow is the last day of January. That means only 1 more month of Winter in northern Wisconsin and then maybe, just maybe Spring will be just around the corner! GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You could be in Texas, darlin’. One day it is spring, and the next day you need your long johns  . But, I’ll take it. However, let’s not wish our lives away!

Kudos- you deserve the fabulous accommodations!

It is a beautiful day here in the Mountains of Utah.
Hundreds of birds are visiting our bird feeders. The snow is glistening like a blanket of diamonds.
We are packing for a trip to Lava Hot Springs in Idaho… a weekend of being lazy and soaking this old body. Yes life is good.

Life IS good! I envy your trip, and I hope you enjoy every moment of it! I love seeing the birds at the feeders.

hmmmmmmmmmm Maybe you need to design an adults only story series and tell some of the tales you overheard in those walls.

exposed brick (or stone) walls make me positively drool!

I love ‘em, too. I have that in my office & some days just sit and stare at it.
