I tell you what! I was holding my breath there for a couple of days. I was frantically pulling my hair and moaning. I was ready to give up completely on trying to make this blog work.
I’m almost afraid to say it … I might jinx the whole thing …
Shhhh…
BlogHer had contacted to tell me that my blog had been hacked. They didn’t want to link to me because of it. That came as a total surprise to me. But, I followed the links they gave me to a site that talked about the hack that BlogHer mentioned. I followed the instructions and I cleared the cookies on my browser. Then, I Googled this blog and sure ’nuff … there it was … the hack.
I was not imagining things. My blog was re-directing to Sattan (hackers cannot spell) when folks clicked Google links. In fact, all of my sites were re-directing (including my work website). It was “bloggy hell.”
My blogging friends who checked for me didn’t see it (although I darned sure appreciate them looking). Some thought I was panicking, some jokingly suggested I was looking for traffic … I couldn’t get them to believe me. But, a few kind folks who had never visited me before checked and they saw the re-direct. I was delighted to find out I wasn’t insane. They didn’t have my “cookies” in their browsers (sounds vaguely naughty, doesn’t it?), and I think that’s why they could see it.
I wrote a help ticket to my web host, and never heard back from them [UPDATE: My blog host contacted me today after I wrote this and said that they were not hacked -- maybe it was Google?]. Today, at this moment, my blog is not re-directing anymore. I won’t believe it until BlogHer tells me that I’m back in their good graces. They wouldn’t link directly to my site because of that hack (though they would put ads on my sidebar). If they won’t link to me, my blogging revenue will suffer and I won’t be able to make that small pittance that pays my blogging “rent.”
So, I’m hoping that it was my blog host that was hacked, and not me. I’m hoping that my world is all better now. I have a lot I want to tell you … about ghost hunts, mushroom farms, wild women, and such. But, I don’t want to waste the words if this blog is going to have to be moved to another space.
I’ll just wait and see. I’m going to “lay low” like Br’er Rabbit for the weekend, and when I get the “all clear” I’ll start yakking again.
Y’all have a great weekend, and a huge thanks and hugs to my blogging buddies for their support! If I can ever do anything for you, then just name it.

Well you got your cookie in my cookie (so where’s the milk?). Hope this all goes well and you have been released from the nether regions and returned properly to earth. That doesn’ sound a bit risque … did the earth move for you too?

Got my fingers (and toes, too) all crossed, rabbit’s foot is shaking as well -all for you, in hopes you got everything fixed up, fine and dandy!
Now, Jeni—I have never considered rabbit’s feet lucky—and neither does the rabbit!

Well, go for it! Thank you, darlin’
Shelly – To clarify, you absolutely heard back from us regarding your redirect question. Chris responded (within the same day) to your ticket telling you that there was no redirect found within your code – and you thanked him and told him that it was now working for you.
Glad your re-direct problem seems to have resolved for you, however it was not an issue with the hosting service. Thanks.
Thanks for stopping by, Lisa. Indeed, I absolutely did hear back from Chris. My support ticket was sent Thursday, February 5th at 4:28 p.m. I heard back from Chris, after I sent a second message, today—Saturday—at 1:08. I had posted this post at 12:22. I haven’t had the opportunity to do an update, but I’ll be happy to add a note. So far, it is still working. Perhaps it was one of those Google glitches. There was one last week, I think where Google listed on every site, “This site could be harmful to your computer.” If it doesn’t happen again, that’s what I’ll assume.
I just came here thru the link in the group update e-mail and everything looks fine (crossing fingers as I speak!!). BUT the same link sent me to sattan the last time I tried, so nothing to do with google!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend in peace!!
Sabines last blog post..Photohunt – Bridge(s)
Sabine, I can’t thank you enough for dropping in to check the links. I tell you what, I thought I was losing my mind for awhile, because I seemed to be the only one seeing it. I haven’t a clue what caused it, but I hope it’s gone for good.
So glad to have you back, Shelly.
My morning coffee never tasted so good.
