Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive. Only The Good Friday.

by on February 13, 2009

otgfthorne4Repeat after me:

Good Morning!

Nooo! Say it with feeling!

Good Morning!

Now don’t you feel better? You should!

Talking “happy” makes you feel happy. It’s official, you see, because I read it in a women’s magazine. That means that it’s true, you know. It was one of those rags that shouted at me at the grocery store check-out line, called Woman’s World. Here is what they said, and I quote:

Because the language and happiness centers of the brain are so closely linked, the brain can’t tell the difference between what we say and what actually is.

Now, some of my friends and I have been trying to tell y’all that for months, as we posted Only The Good Fridays. Yes, I am fully aware that this is Friday the 13th, but it’s a good Friday, anyway. I’ll list three things that are good in my world today, and you can tell me three that are good in yours:

  1. My hands and feet are almost healed after the chemical burn I got in November from using old hand lotion. They aren’t quite “normal,” but close.
  2. I’m seeing some rumbling around the internet about The Good Medicine Project, so I’m hoping that my mailbox will soon start containing donations. I don’t see why not since the medicine bags and charms I’m soliciting are for kids with cancer.
  3. When the cat barfed this morning, he missed my shoe entirely.

Now, it’s your turn. You can post a comment, or you can write a post (link to this page, and come back and tell me so people can find you) and help us spread an “optimism virus” on the internet. If you want a “purdy pitcher” to put on the post, Thorne made some wonderful “banner/icon thingies” for us.

Before you go, listen to this YouTube version of Johnny Mercer’s tune “Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive.” It’s sung by Aretha (do I have to tell you that her last name is “Franklin?”). Listen to it all the way through. I bet by the end of the day you find yourself humming that tune. You don’t have to thank me.

Now, go and have a good day!

As you know, I participate -or try to -in your Only the Good project and I really do enjoy it too. It’s true -it does force you to try to reverse your frame of mind when you’re maybe having a bit of a down day -or week/month/year -whatever! Well this a.m., as I was reading my bloglist new posts, etc., the poster just before yours was having a bit of a difficult time, depression and such, right now and I had mentioned your blog and this theme to her that she might wanna consider doing this every Friday. When I came here and read your post, I copied the url over from this post and went back to the other poster’s blog and did another comment there in which I gave her your post for today! Ah, that gives me a good feeling knowing I told her about a great blog and a really neat way too in which she can apply her thoughts to helping to turn her days around a bit! Works for me, how about you?
Peace, my friend and thanks again for starting this “optimism: movement.

Yep! another Good Friday has rolled in.

Our neighbors are so good to us!
Last night Alan brought us fresh smoked trout. Lyle brought us a package of venison. Both of these men watch our little farm when we go away.

Fern, 88 years old, just walked by and shouted out a cheery greeting.

So, I decided that on this Good Friday I would bake bread to reciprocate. The aroma of baking bread fills my house.

 Have a Good Friday!

Computer programmers have been saying for years: Garbage In Garbage Out. If you program an error, you get an error. Your brain is the same. If you keep telling yourself sad, bad or ugly things, then that is the way your and the world looks. The more good things you tell yourself, the better.

This works with all sorts of activities. The brain doesn’t understand “No” messages as in, “Don’t think about pink elephants”. You have to think about the elephants. If you want to quit smoking, don’t program yourself with “Don’t Smoke”, it won’t work because your brain hears “Smoke”. Use a “yes” message instead i.e. “Stale smoke smells awful”.

More than just computer programmers have been saying it, I think. I know it sounds sappy, but we really can change our attitudes just by changing how we think.

I’ll have you know that I dumped all the old lotions after reading about your saga awhile back. Thanks again. You done good!

 I’m so glad you did, because I don’t want ANYBODY to experience what I did!

Yikes didn’t read about the hands. I hope you are better now. I can’t imagine. I am sure I have old lotions that i didn’t use. I will go and throw them out now. I never thought anything like that could happen)-: I don’t use foundation except maybe once a year so I guess I should get rid of that too.

cindees last blog post..Manzanita Monday

SERIOUSLY! I can’t say it often enough. I would rather have suffered pneumonia…given birth to a miniature elephant….I dunno what. The problem with my hands was one of the most awful experiences. It still isn’t back to normal, and I don’t know if it ever will be! Definitely don’t put old lotion on your face!!!
