Brought To You By The Letter “L.” Only The Good Friday.

by Shelly Kneupper Tucker on February 27, 2009

The “L” for today stands for “Lola.” She is a delightful jewelry maker and blogger, in the Canary Islands of Spain, who has a heart as big as Dallas, TX. Look at what she sent me in the mail:

BubbleShare: Share photosFind great Clip Art Images.

[Editor's Note: Just found out how to add her Bubbleshare to the site ---duh]

Actually, she didn’t send them for me. She sent them for children with cancer (and their siblings) who will attend summer camp at Camp Sanguinity in July.

I will tuck one of her charms, and two charms donated from other people, into a medicine bag lovingly made by a fourth person. That way, each child knows that 4 different people stopped what they were doing to send a little love their way. With luck, and “good medicine,” those children will treasure these gifts of love well into adulthood.

I’m using a picture from Lola’s Bubble Share Album where she put pictures of all the charms she has hand-made for the “Good Medicine Project.” Her pictures are much better than anything I could take.

Lola is only one of hundreds of kind-hearted folks I have “met” in the last two and a half years. She participated in the Share A Square project, and now supports the Good Medicine Project. I’m picking her out of the bunch for two reasons:

  1. In order to even know what the heck I am talking about, Lola has to have a dictionary at hand. She speaks Spanish and has to translate my words to know what is going on here. No dictionary would translate the idioms I use — so the fact that she can figure it out amazes me.
  2. She put these together and mailed them to me despite the fact that she has recently been ill and in the hospital! Some people don’t let anything stop them from giving of their hearts to other people. Lola is one of those people.

If you have a little bit of love to share, you can help, too. Some of the pictures are posted on my Flickr site, but you can visit the Good Medicine post to find out how you can make a difference.

If you would like to send charms, they don’t have to be handmade! Jamie’s son sent Stryker badges, uniform patches and project coins (military out of Fort Lewis Washington and his postings in Germany), plus a whole bunch of Disney pins. The boys, especially, will go nuts over these! Look through your stash of stuff for an arrowhead, a lucky coin, a silver charm, a polished stone — and send it along.

That’s the “good” that I have to share for Only The Good Friday. For some people, Fridays are “good” because they are the end of the work week. For other people, Fridays are “good” because they are the Sabbath day. For me, Fridays are “good” just because I say so.

Friday is the one day out of a week where I refuse to be pessimistic; I refuse to write a post that is snarky; and I actively search for the “good.” I’ve discovered that if you practice looking for the good, it becomes much easier to find! You can join me, and several of my friends, if you like (I’m trying to spread this “optimism virus” on the internet). Write a post about something good in your world, or tell us about your favorite charity. Tell us about a book or a song that gives you delight. You can even post a recipe you think we might enjoy (especially if it contains bacon!).

And, if you don’t want to post, then take just a minute to think … then post a comment to tell me something good going on with you today. Here’s hoping your day is filled with Only The Good.

Thank you for the thank you. Your projects always deserve support. Lola’s jewels are beautiful. It’s almost as if Tinkerbell was contributing to make wishes come true.

You’re welcome for the thank you. Thank you for thanking me for it. I always like the way you phrase things…Tinkerbell…Lola will like that.

Your projects contribute to the “good”… not only on Friday’s …but through out the year. Thanks for the reminder. I need to get my medicine bags finished up. I have found the charms for the boy’s bags..but I need to collect the charms for the gals. Great project to add to my “Only The Good” Friday.

Thanks, Kathy. I’m getting excited about the opportunity to give these bags to the kids.

It is a bluebird day here in the Mountains of Utah!

I have also found that it is easier to find the good once you go looking,

Thanks Shelly

Lola’s pieces are beautiful, and sure to put a smile on some child’s face.

My only the good was on Thursday this week, but I think it more than qualifies  .
