I love to buy products from companies that give back to the community. I don’t buy Tide detergent, but after a recent press release from BlogHer, I think I’m going to have to start purchasing it.
Most of us take for granted the opportunity to wear clean underwear and clothing every day. In the wake of natural disasters, such as a hurricane or tornado, that opportunity is gone with the wind.
BlogHer has informed us that Tide (a product of Proctor & Gamble) has a charitable program that can help. It’s called Loads of Hope. You should read about it! In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Tide took vans into stricken areas to wash clothing for the victims, thus providing clean clothes and a sense of comfort to families in need.
The Loads of Hope website proudly proclaims:
“To date, Tide Loads of Hope has washed more than 35,000 loads of laundry for over 20,000 families. Most importantly, the Tide Loads of Hope program means we’re equipped to take action whenever and wherever there is a need in our country.”
Tide has partnered with Feeding America, which secures and distributes nearly two billion pounds of donated food and grocery products annually. That sounds like a darned good partnership to me.
We can help Tide help those in need. Buying their products is a start, but if you’d like to do more (and are in a financial position to do so), you can buy a vintage-looking Tide t-shirt from their website. ALL of the profits go to support families affected by disaster.
Cynics might look upon it as a public relations move, but if a company gets publicity from doing good deeds then I figure it is well deserved publicity. Cynics might also think that I’m getting paid for this — but, I’m not. I just thought it was something “good” to share on “Only The Good Friday.”
Are you wondering what I mean by “Only The Good ?” I’ve been writing Only The Good Friday every week for a few months now, and sporadically posting Only The Good before then. Here is what I have told you before:
For some people, Fridays are “good” because they are the end of the work week. For other people, Fridays are “good” because they are the Sabbath day. For me, Fridays are “good” just because I say so.
Friday is the one day out of a week where I refuse to be pessimistic; I refuse to write a post that is snarky; and I actively search for the “good.” I’ve discovered that if you practice looking for the good, it becomes much easier to find!
You can join me, and several of my friends, if you like (I’m trying to spread this “optimism virus” on the internet). Write a post about something good in your world, or tell us about your favorite charity. Tell us about a book or a song that gives you delight. You can even post a recipe you think we might enjoy (especially if it contains bacon!). If you do post, please link back to this page so your readers can join, and others can find you.
And, if you don’t want to post, then take just a minute to think … then post a comment to tell me something good going on with you today. Here’s hoping your day is filled with Only The Good.

I read about the Tide program several weeks ago. It is such a simple thing to bring so much comfort.
Having clean clothing and bedding is a simple thing, but the work that Tide does to bring that to the community is not so simple at all! I think it’s really a great program, and it was brilliant of them to think of it.
It was above freezing, the sun was shining & the wind was bearable – a GOOD FRIDAY here in the northwoods of Wisconsin!!!!!
I’m so glad! Aren’t you delighted that spring is around the corner! Happy weekend.
Ohhhh that’s pretty cool! And I like that T! Happy Friday and carry all that good right into your weekend!
