Love’s Many Cloths. Only The Good Friday.

by Shelly Kneupper Tucker on March 27, 2009

Are you a crafter with a big heart? Maybe you have been searching for the opportunity to put your talents to good use? I think I have another site of interest for you, if you haven’t already discovered it.

While I was struggling to get people to become involved in the Good Medicine Project, a kind-hearted blogger named Wendy took up the “baton,” so to speak. She was involved with a group of crafters on the internet who convene at a website called Love’s Many Cloths. That sweet lady put out a plea for help from her fellow crafters, and medicine bags are beginning to come to my mailbox!

The co-founder of the site, Dana in Winona, MN, sent me a nice comment, and I asked her if she could tell me more about Love’s Many Cloths. I’d just like to share her e-mail with you in its entirety, because I think this is an especially “good” site:

Hello Shelly,
I would be honored to be a guest on your blog. I try to keep others informed that there are places that have so many needs and that we crafters can really make a difference in someone’s life everyday. Many people’s lives in fact of all ages.

When I started the Love’s Many Cloths group, I had just left my very first list group where we were making facecloths for Hurricane Katrina survivors that were displaced in shelters in several southern states. As I learned more about the giving process, I realized that there are so many reasons to give and many more varieties of needs.

The facecloth is our signature gift. We started with facecloths and today after 3+ yrs. we are finding them to still be one of our biggest needs we have. Crafters love to make them for the simplicity and the wide range of patterns available. We now give gifts of all types for many need reasons. Not only the babies to the pets…but also the troops to the homeless teens on big city streets. We are a NO QUOTA-NO PRESSURE group and we all love the ability to give wherever we want whether it be in our own local towns or helping out other needs afar.

The Love’s Many Cloths website was a very important tool to get our name out there. I try to keep the website up-to-date with current needs and other constants that crafters can give to all year long or just for a certain amount of collection time. I have many crafters that do not belong to the Love’s List on Yahoo, but they are willing to email me for information and send to me or give to an organization that I have listed on the website.

Love’s Many Cloths is my life. I live it, enjoy it, and even sleep it! Most of my ideas come in my sleep..which is sometimes just as I sit with my needles in hand dozing on my couch. I cannot imagine my life without the act of making and giving to others. A special gift of love or a very much needed pair of mittens or slippers for warmth. A smile can reach a mile! Even if I cannot see the recipients joy, I still know it is there. I feel it!

I am currently working on several gifts. Our March 21st Spring Kickoff for Solomon’s Porch Teen Outreach Center in Wenatchee, Washington and the Oasis Center for Homeless Teens in Nashville TN. We are making winter wear to be delivered in the fall. A large quantity is needed so we need to work on it all year long. The website for this is www.loveswarmeryouth.giving.officelive.com

I am also giving to two Visiting Nurses Services, Inc. One in New York (Bronx division) and one in the Twin Cities of MN. Facecloths, winterwear, slippers, etc. I may even make some totebags. www.vnsny.org or www.mvna.org

We have just started to make gifts for the Crotched Mountain Handicapped School in New Hampshire. Teen gals in wheelchairs will be receiving totebags to help with their daily work load. They will also be receiving other items as they are requested. www.crotchedmountain.org
Well, better get moving…I have to get my lil bag ready for you….
Hugs, Dana

Didn’t I tell you it was good? If it sounds like the place for you, hop over there and get involved. And, Dana, Wendy, and all you ladies filled with love, I want to thank you on behalf of the children at Camp Sanguinity Cancer Camp. They are going to be so thrilled this summer. Thank you for your help in reaching our goal. I admire what you women do!

Are you wondering what I mean by “Only The Good ?” I’ve been writing Only The Good Friday every week for a few months now, and sporadically posting Only The Good before then. Here is what I have told you before:

For some people, Fridays are “good” because they are the end of the work week. For other people, Fridays are “good” because they are the Sabbath day. For me, Fridays are “good” just because I say so.

Friday is the one day out of a week where I refuse to be pessimistic; I refuse to write a post that is snarky; and I actively search for the “good.” I’ve discovered that if you practice looking for the good, it becomes much easier to find!

You can join me, and several of my friends, if you like (I’m trying to spread this “optimism virus” on the internet). Write a post about something good in your world, or tell us about your favorite charity. Tell us about a book or a song that gives you delight. You can even post a recipe you think we might enjoy (especially if it contains bacon!). If you do post, please link back to this page so your readers can join, and others can find you.

And, if you don’t want to post, then take just a minute to think … then post a comment to tell me something good going on with you today. Here’s hoping your day is filled with Only The Good.

Here is the beginning of a blogroll, if you would like to add links to your posts. I went to the beginning back in October, and tried to find every blog that has posted. Please tell me if I somehow missed you, and I’ll get you on this list. Thanks to all of you for playing along!

RV Poetry; Candid Karina; All My Great, or Not So Great Adventures; Inside Mo’s Mind; Thorne’s World; Down River Drivel; Duward Discussion; Ramblings of an Unstable Mind; The Eclectic Witch; Insightful Nana; Newbie Lifeline; Everyday Tarot; West of Mars; Life’s Journey

You are connecting with the lovely people who make things that bring comfort and improve the world. I’m just astounded by the people who grow things to make things beautiful and improve the world. Lots of websites for those activities as well on this Friday.

My friend started and posts The Good Friday every now and again. Her first post is here – http://booktender.blogspot.com/2008/12/good-friday.html – in December. :)

Thanks for keeping up with the good news… I’m a bit sporadic myself and have been slacking off on the blogging in general. But – I posted a (mostly) Good on Friday post today!

No time to post, but my good is my day got a whole lot better than it started, which translates to: smile and someone will smile with you. Pass it on.

Thank you so very much for mentioning me and the group….I may not have the riches of the world, but I do have my God given gift to create things with my hands….AND it gives me a sense of worth in the world…I have not joined in the Only the Good..BUT want to share my good for the day…My dad has agreed to let the cats come with us to his house…so now my kids do not have to have another heart break and have their worlds turned upside down even more….Thanks agai for giving us another way to give….
