This tiny patch of wildflowers

was an island in an ocean of bluebonnets

We snapped these pictures (and many more) last weekend just south of Navasota, Texas on Highway 6. We were heading south, and these were in a field on the right. The field is hidden behind the treeline, but if you catch a glimpse of it there are places to pull off the road and take the obligatory bluebonnet pictures.
Just don’t sit down in them, unless you want ants in your pants.
Looking at these pictures inspired me to write a post on Lady Bird Johnson over at BlogHer.

I LOVE the pictures. One of my major science projects in high school was to find and name (scientific name and common name) 25 flowers AND 25 GRASSES. The flowers were a breeze with “Texas Roadside Flowers” book as a guide, but the grasses…ugh!
Still, what I love about Texas is that the flowers in Spring are just as fickle as the weather. If you don’t like the flowers this week, just wait until next week. You’ll get a whole new batch!
By the way, I realized after reading one of your posts that I’ve been away from Texas too long. I didn’t realize that Morning Dove was actually spelled Mourning Dove. See? People learn stuff when they come to your blog! I’m working on getting Texified again.
Have a good day!
