Heritage Inn Bed and Breakfast, Denton. My Neck Of The Woods.

by Shelly Kneupper Tucker on April 18, 2009

Not far from the Courthouse Square in Denton, Texas there is a quaint Bed and Breakfast Inn. Actually, it consists of three historic homes, side by side and surrounded by gardens, on Locust Street. The Heritage Inn is a delightful retreat — an alternative to the generic hotels you find along the highways. If Denton is your destination, I encourage you to visit!

The Heritage Inn

Dancing down the aisleHave I actually stayed there? Sure as shootin’. Many years ago, I had the pleasure of a night’s visit during a storytelling festival that we have in town. I loved it so much that six years ago (tomorrow) I decided to use The Heritage Inn as the setting for my wedding to Mr. Tucker. We had guests coming from out of state, and I rented six rooms to house our family.

Our small wedding ceremony was held under the gazebo that is situated behind the main house. It was a beautiful setting.

The wedding reception was catered by Giuseppe’s Restaurant, which features Northern Italian cuisine (and is conveniently located in the middle house of the bed and breakfast complex). I suggest that you not miss the chance to dine there!

The charm of the hardwood floors, high ceilings, Victorian furnishings, and the surrounding gardens is only exceeded by the hospitality of the hosts. John and Donna Morris are the innkeepers, and they will go out of their way to make your experience there a memorable one.

It’s a short walk from the inn to the downtown area of Denton, where you will find shops and tiny museums to keep you entertained for hours. If you go to Jupiter House for coffee, you might even see me slinking around in my pajamas, trying not to be seen!

This is one of a series of posts I am doing on Saturdays called “My Neck Of The Woods.” Each Saturday, I will post about something in my area, or in my state, that a tourist passing through here might not know to find. I invite y’all to join me and tell about your neck of the woods. Read the page about it, and if you’d like to post, follow the directions and I’ll link you here. Soon, nobody will need those guide books, because they will have us!

What a lovely place. I really do need to get to Texas. My neck of the woods is in the woods again this week.

What a great choice for a wedding – it’s got so much character.

We’re looking at B&B’s for a quick trip to the Maine coast this summer and the choices are a bit overwhelming.

What marvelous houses in your neck of the woods. I looked at the map and what do ya know… I have a cousin who lives in Flower Mound. I haven’t seen her or heard from her in years. I do know she is a high school teacher and her husband has a pool business. What a small world!

@Carol, there are indeed pretty marvelous houses here. Unfortunately, many of them got turned into frat houses, apartments for students, or are on a “main drag.” You’ll just have to come to Flower Mound to rediscover your friend and to visit a new one!

@Robin, It’s hard to know about B & Bs sometimes. I require a private bathroom. Other than that, I just go with the flow…so to speak.

@Jamie, yes you do need to get to Texas—and “mi casa es tu casa.”

@Jehara, trust me–not all of the houses are pretty!
