More Medicine Bags

by Shelly Kneupper Tucker on May 12, 2009

Some of you are aware that volunteers from around the globe have been helping with a project called, “The Good Medicine Project.” It’s one of those “feel good” projects. The medicine bags and charms that you see on this page will be given to children at Camp Sanguinity, a summer camp for kids with cancer (and their siblings). It is associated with Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas.

There will be 140 children attending this camp, and for one week out of their lives they can forget all about cancer! They get to just “be kids.”

They will be riding horses, because it’s Texas, dadgummit, and that’s what kids do at camp. They will go on hikes, make crafts, play games, and sing around the campfires. Do y’all remember doing those things as a child? These children don’t get to do things like that very often, so this camp is a blessing for them.

If you would like, you could help us give those children another blessing. We are putting together 140 “medicine bags’ for these children. Each bag will contain three “lucky charms.” This means that each child will get a handful of love from four different people.

You don’t have to be “crafty” to help. Gather some charms, and you can send them to me. Here is the address:

Last year, we gave 140 afghans in the Share A Square Project. This time, the gifts are much smaller, but they are still filled with love and hope–the hope that these children will overcome cancer and treasure these gifts for a lifetime.

I love the “new” presentation of the medicine bags and charms. Let me know if you need any more bags made. You are doing such a wonderful job with this. Thank you.

There will be no running and ducking from big Texas hugs! :) I’m glad they arrived safely and hope they’ll be a good fit for the older boys.
