You Scream, I Scream, We All Scream For…

by Shelly Kneupper Tucker on May 31, 2009

Italian Ice, a sweet summer treat.

You might scream for “ice cream,” but I scream for Italian Ice — “gelato.” I know, I know. It ruins the rhyme.

I’ve told you before that it’s not summer until my Italian Ice stand opens here in Denton. I went there yesterday, jonesing for some “brain freeze.” Unfortunately the tiny establishment, New York’s Famous Italian Ice, folded during the recession. But, I remember getting ices like this one, not so very long ago!

Oh yum, that looks delicious! What a bummer that they closed. Maybe you could fill in with sorbet from somewhere else? (I know, a sacrilege, but desperate times and all that.)

I am taking my jar full with quarters and heading my way to that icy pleasure I see on that photo. The perfect cure against summer heat. Thanks!

I love ice-creams. I don’t only eat them in the summer though.

That looks so refreshing! I can almost feel the chill. Do you know what they call Italian Ice in Italy?… “Ice” Bwahahaha. Seriously though, what passes for ice cream in Rome is so far from ice cream as we know it. It’s so rich and light; it’s like a cross between ice cream and whipped cream…
Ooohhhh… now I’m wishing I were on the road or in the air on the way to somewhere. I miss traveling so. At least I get to do a little virtual travel via your posts and pics!

Mmm – gelato… Too bad your local spot had to close. I haven’t had gelato since I was last in Toronto. Big Italian/Canadian population there. I quite love your picture – I think you did a great job with it.

I hope somebody else comes along soon to sell proper gelato in your town. Absolutely vital for a reasonable summer experience!

I have to locate some of that gelato around here! We have a million ice cream places, but I can’t think of one place that serves that! It looks delicious! I think I want it in mango or banana flavors! Mmmmmmm! The picture you took is fantastic! All the condensation makes it look exceptionally cooling and thirst quenching ;)

Italians have the best ice cream. EVER. But you made a stunning picture of it, I love the tiny droplets on the container, perfect!
