“They” Say “It” Happens in “Threes”

by Shelly Kneupper Tucker on June 3, 2009

I don’t know what “it” is, and I don’t know who “they” are. My Mamaw always said, “Good things happen in threes.” Other folks say, “bad things happen in threes.” Why does “three” seems to be a magical number in these superstitions? Even when storytellers relate a tale, things happen in “threes.” Does that hold true for you?

This last week in my little eclectic life, “strange things” have happened in a set of three:

  1. My friend Thorne laughingly calls me “Miss Non-Controversial.” I try to avoid talking about politics or religion on this blog. It’s not that I don’t have opinions, mind you. I just don’t like to stir up trouble. Heck I had to run it past you before I told you about Gaybingo!

Seems I stirred controvery anyway over a silly thing like hand lotion! I told y’all back in December to throw away your old hand lotions. Old lotions can become contaminated with bacteria, and I didn’t want you to get a “chemical burn” on your skin as, I did.

piranhasI noticed that there was a lot of traffic to the post, followed the links, and found what I thought were a bunch of trash talking teenagers discussing the post and calling me a liar. Actually, they called me “an effing liar.” When I joined their forum to try to tell them it was true (because these kids were swapping makeup, for Heaven’s sake), they swarmed on me like a school of piranhas hungry for blood.

I thought that their Mommas should wash their mouths out with soap! Turns out that these were girls old enough to know better! Some of them were mommas! They were in their twenties and talking like that. I was mortified and saddened for a brief spell — saddened for the generation of children being raised by parents with no manners or good sense. One of them had the nerve to come to my post and comment, anonymously of course.

I got over the shock by reminding myself of all the good young women I find on the internet and remembering that these girls at Makeup Alley were an aberration. And, I reminded myself that I like blog traffic. Maybe I should be controversial more often? Perhaps I could write a post about mascara or something.

  2. Another odd thing that happened was getting a comment on a blog post about a ghost hunt in Boerne, Texas. I had told of my experience staying at Ye Kendall Inn, which is haunted. A woman named Sherra wrote a comment and left a darned interesting story about her own ghostly experience! Hers was much better than mine, and now I have the fever to go back to Boerne and try again. If you like ghost stories, follow that link and read the last comment.
  3. The third odd thing was a contact from ABC (as in the television station!). It seems that they were searching for “storytelling families” to be on the “reality” show they call Wife Swap. Unfortunately, I have no children at home under that age of 17 (please note that when I said, “unfortunately” my tongue was firmly planted in my cheek!). They also told me that if I refer a family who is chosen to be on the show, I can receive $1,000 for the referral. Unfortunately, I won’t get that either! Unless YOU would like me to give them your contact info?

I figure that “it” doesn’t happen in “threes;” “it” happens in multiples of three! So I guess I’ll head out into the world and see what strange things happen today.

You’ll like her ghost story then!

I have to agree that not everyone is raised knowing proper manners. In my experience, proper manners go along way to getting what you want.

As for the “Wife Swap” offer. I do have kids at home but I would not subject my family to a reality show for any price. Privacy is Priceless!

I look forward to your next post. Wishing you a scent-sational day!

I’m so glad you don’t want to do wife swap, Patricia! That is one of the meanest shows I’ve ever seen (though I admit I’ve only seen parts of two shows—and that was enough). Have a wonderful day yourself!

Boy, you never know what will bring controversy, old hand-lotion? Pretty crazy. Swapping make-up sounds up to par with swapping bad taste and manners.

Thanks Shelly for mentioning me concerning the Ye Kendall Inn in Boerne, Texas haunting. I am still reeling from that experience. One of my good friends said to me after I told her the story, “Well, of all the people I know, I’m not surprised it happenned to you!” Not quite sure what she meant, but oh well, I love life and adventures, so I’m sure you can relate! I have found stories written in several “haunted Texas” books about the Inn. The woman who haunts the Marcella Booth Room is thought to be Sara, one of the original owners.

Hope you get to go back. I wouldn’t stay in the Marcella Booth Room unless the inn has changed the mattress. As I said before, it was pretty bad! Ha!

My next adventure will be in Kentucky. My main reason is to go to Kentucky Horse Park (I have Arabian horses), but I hope to check out some ghostly places there as well.

Again thanks for reading my comment and making it a part of your website.

You had a pretty marvelous ghostly experience, Sherra and I was delighted to point people to read it. I’ll be back to Ye Kendall Inn, because I work in the area occasionally (and I’ll be looking for the ghosts). If you see any ghosts in Kentucky, be sure to let me know! Thanks for visiting!

Hi again!

I saw where I you commented about the making another ghost trip to Boerne. Can’t wait to see what happens! I have since found several books and comments about the haunted inn. They all verify exactly what happenned to me! I still get chills when I think of this trip. I went to that inn completely unaware of the ghosts there. We were having a busy weekend since my daughter’s best friend was getting married in Fredricksburg. I was looking forward to taking in the history and doing a little shopping. The unexpected ghost encounter still makes me shiver.

I too have been thanking of revisiting the inn, but I will not stay in the Marcella Booth room. No way! However, there is supposedly other ghosts that haunt the grounds.

Good luck on your ghost hunt!
