Ready For Delivery And Raring To Go. Only The Good Friday

by Shelly Kneupper Tucker on June 19, 2009

Yes, it is a “good Friday,” my friends. For almost a year, people from all over the world have utilized their time and talents to bring cheer to children with cancer. They have been making “medicine bags” and sending lucky charms to deliver to children at Camp Sanguinity.

These are kids with cancer, and their siblings, who get to spend a week in a pretty wonderful place! At summer camp, they are going to get to ride horses, sing around a campfire, take hikes, make crafts … AND we will deliver a bag to each of 140 kids.

On this page, you see the last batch of bags I have processed. I’ve been dividing them into groups for girls (ages 6-16) and for boys (ages 6-16). For each group, I’ve tried to find appropriate bags and charms that they can treasure for a lifetime.

We are now ready, and camp is the first week of July. I’m not sure yet which day I will deliver, but I think that this year they will let me perform stories for the kids as we hand out the bags. I’m raring to go!

Isn’t that pretty good news for a Friday? So, tell me what is going on in your world that is good today? Leave me a comment … or write a post about “the good” and tell me, so I can add you to these other fine folks who participate in Only The Good Friday.

And, if you are on Twitter, help me start a movement. Tweet any “good” you see on the internet adding these “hashtags” at the end: “#goodenergy #otgf.” That way other folks will find us and this “optimism virus” will spread! Y’all have a wonderful weekend!

The bags are beautiful and I’m really looking forward to this year’s pictures of the camp. As ever, you did a really good thing. On my list, of good things, I’ve started posting the World War II letters home on the Liberator Campaign http://94campaign.blogspot.com/

Plus I hunted down and wrestled my muse to the ground till she screamed uncle and came up with a Father’s Day post. I hope it comes across that you can find real caring in even the most difficult relationships.

What an awesome project and what beautiful results! The medicine bags are sure to become talismans and true treasures for each of the children. My OTGF is at CoffeeBreak Blog – all about healthy coffee. Come have a cup with me.

It’s been weeks since I’ve checked to see how things went and I am THRILLED to see the results of this project!!! It’s nice to know that my small contribution could be used to bring such joy to the campers. I remember my days at Girl Scout camps over the years and they always bring a smile to MY face! Keep up the good work. And be sure to share when you have an idea for another project. It’s fun for us to help YOU!!
