Y’all know by now that I’m a gal who likes to eat. If I find a restaurant I like, I’ll go out of my way to visit. “Spoons,” in McKinney, is one of those places. I had visited it more than a year ago during an Arts Walk night in the town. I loved it then and had been dreaming of it ever since (and drooling in my sleep!).
Left to my own devices, I decided to try Spoons again last week when I went to the Heard Museum and walked in the Wildlife Sanctuary. Go ahead and click the links if you want … I showed you pictures of the trip.
I got parked and to the restaurant door just as church was letting out … and in Texas, if you want to eat out on Sunday, that is very bad timing. Especially when you are visiting a place as popular as this one. Spoons is THE place to eat a Sunday brunch in Collin County, Texas.
The lunch crowd filled the room
Even looking at the crowd in front of me, I was determined. The young woman at the door asked me if I wanted to sit at a stool at the bar, and I declined. I wanted a table to myself! Perhaps that was selfish of me, but my money is green, and I tip well. I didn’t want to be scrunched up and rushed to eat. So, I waited.
After about 15 minutes, the owner of Spoons, Karen Klassen, stepped over and said, “Shelly, if you’d like you can eat in The Garage, we just opened it up.” She told me I had to step outside in the heat and walk around the building. The Garage??? Now, that didn’t sound too appetizing, but the aroma of the food cooking was making me light headed. I wanted to eat soon and I figured that the Garage had to be better than sitting on a stool. I was skeptical, but I trudged outside and around the corner.
If my garage looked like this, I'd never come inside!
That’s what greeted my eye! Alright! Shoot, that looked better than my own living room.
I could drink coffee here all day!
I ordered my lunch and wandered around the room admiring the funky artwork on the walls and the goodies they had for sale.
Shelves filled with stuff to buy!
Those lips were painted by a little kid.
But, when my meal got delivered, it was time to get serious! I chowed down.
Chicken salad sandwich, sweet potato fries, and potato salad
I did slow down long enough to have a chat with Karen (who has a delightful blog you might want to visit). She has grand plans for that “Garage,” and is working at scheduling live music and other entertainment. Next time I go, it might be packed in that room, sigh.
If you go there to eat, anything on the menu is reputed to be fantastic, but I loved my Chicken salad sandwich, sweet potato fries, and potato salad. OK, maybe I overdid it on the carbs, but it was worth it. Every bite was scrumptious. Only … I filled up too much to eat a piece of pie! Dang! That means I’ll just have to go back.

What a cool place!!! That garage looks more appealing than my frunchroom, too!
I so wish we had some places like this around here. Everything in that place looks like candy for the eyes! I could spend hours in there just looking around. I am going to make it my personal mission to find a place like this here!

I thought that in Chicago it was a “grach,” though in Texas that would be “graj.” And, your “frunchroom” is a “libnroom” in Texas.
Yes, it was candy for the eyes. I have LOTS more cool pictures, but I didn’t want to bore you to tears.
You know, your post about Fruncrooms and Grachkis is inspiring another post about language
.
My error
It is indeed a grach. I love libnroom! I’m going to start using that….start a new trend BWAHAHAHA! And, I’d never be bored with pictures like those!!

Sweet Potato Fries? I better figure out how to make those. They look yummy.
Thanks for the visit to your neck of the woods. It is so much fun.

Looks good to me. I haven’t had sweet potato fries before. Would love to try them. My garage doesn’t look like that either… However, a good sweep out would help.
Thanks for featuring the Insightful Nana post “Fire Fire Fire” on “Oh Wait” I gotta tell you this.” I appreciate it.

How am I ever going to make a trip ACROSS country next spring, if you keep bringing me to a complete halt in Texas? That looks like a wonderful restaurant.
