I’m not talking about what you think … at least, I don’t think so. I confess that I don’t really know for sure.
You see, I have a threesome of feathered visitors to my yard. A pair of cardinals and a “friend” visit the bird feeder I put out for them. I’ve tried to get a picture by moving the feeder closer to where I sit on the porch, but they won’t cooperate. The male looks just like the one I found on Wikipedia — he is so dapper with that bright red plumage and his black mask. The female is drab by comparison, with almost rust colored feathers. The “friend” who is always with them is a very tiny female sparrow, who makes that female cardinal seem as colorful as a peacock!
I think it’s odd enough that the two different species intermingle in a friendly way, because most of the birds squabble and squawk if a different type of bird comes near them. But, there’s more to the story (as there always is with me).
The two females fly to the porch railing and sit, too shy to come to the feeder about fifteen feet from the chair where I like to perch. The bolder male flies to the bird feeder and delicately picks up a single seed. He then flies back to the female cardinal and tenderly places the seed in her mouth for her to eat. He returns to the feeder and delicately picks up another seed and flies to the female sparrow! He tenderly places the seed in the sparrow’s mouth for her to eat!
“I swan I’ve never seen anything like it in all my natural born days,” as my Mamaw would say.
Folks, this happens nearly every single day. Now, I don’t think there is anything kinky going on … it probably isn’t a ménage à trois. But, it’s a wonderful display of harmony between the two species.
And, I’m thinking that if birds can get along in peace that way …
… well …
… I’m just sayin’.
It’s “Only The Good Friday,” again … a day when I try to spread an “optimism virus” on the internet. On Friday’s, I only think about stuff that’s “good.” Or, I try to put a “good” spin on things that have gone wrong. Today, Dust Bunny Hostage declared it “Think Positive Day,” but she only declared it for a day. Join in, won’t you?
Try it, you might like that positive thinking.

I put up a post for Positive Day so I hope I will get credit for “Only The Good” Friday. Cuz I’ve been neglectful and need to be very, very good because I want you to tell me a story on Take This Tune
Love the bird story. Could he being the lady birds close and dear gay friend? hhmmmm just saying. On the other hand, it could be interesting if you got a Cardirow or Sparinal out of this mix.

I don’t know if he is their gay friend.
A Sparinal would be fun.
I know what you mean – I see a cardinal every day – have only one blurry photo! The male ones are all colored up /like girl in front of a mirror

Not like this girl in front of a mirror. I’m not the “peacock” in the family
You have such a great way of looking at everything.
Thanks Shelly.

Not really, Carol. Some things, yes. But, only on Friday
How sweet! You are right! We could learn a lot by emulating the natural world instead of always trying to control & subdue it!
