Sidewalk Art or Vandalism?

by Shelly Kneupper Tucker on September 7, 2009

It’s time for me to try Monochrome Weekly again. Every week, bloggers who also take photographs, post their photos in black and white. If you haven’t visited, you might enjoy it. Now, I’m not a very good photographer, but I’m trying to learn.

A couple of weeks ago, my husband and I took a leisurely stroll around Denton, Texas (the town where I live). We were moving slowly, because I’m recovering from a back injury, searching for interesting things to “shoot.”

My husband noticed “sidewalk art.” Someone had spray painted a skull on the sidewalk.

I thought it was kinda pretty — for a skull. Somebody else might call painting a skull on the sidewalk “vandalism,” but I’m going to call it “self-expression.” What do you think?

Have you seen a prettier skull?

My husband happened to move, and his shadow fell over the skull.

So, I tried to pose a shot. Does this skull make my butt look big?

Don’t you dare answer that question! Can’t you people recognize a rhetorical question when you find one?

We took some other pictures that day, but they were colorful and don’t fit the theme. So, I posted them at my long neglected Posterous account. I’m going to attempt to revive that blog and use it for photos that I don’t post here.

Y’all go visit the other folks who are posting. I hope you have a great day. Look for “art” wherever you find it!

Very clown-like – perhaps there are more if a template is being used.

I didn’t find more, but I’m sure it was a template. After seeing the first one, we kept our eyes peeled. Nada.

I thought they were pretty artistic, even though it was probably a template. They would have had to work fast!

The shadow monster is hilarious! Very creative – I can try this – let the kids make one with chalk – such a great idea. I agree scull made with flowers and heart shapes looks kind of friendly!

It does indeed look friendly, and the kids will love it! Lining up the shadow was more difficult than I thought, and I couldn’t master it, but I bet YOU could

I absolutely love it! I do love happy skulls. I have a few around here. I’ll have to show you some pics of them soon. (I’m so pleased to see you doing the monochrome thingy again! I’ll have to jump back in with my *new* camera soon! Mwaaah!)

Yep, “monochrome thingy” is fun. Skulls are fun, too. You can post yours just in time for Halloween! It’s just around the corner!
