Also, I have to agree that volunteering can be a great way to turn things around even when you're down and out. When I was laid off, I was volunteering at a soup kitchen when the conversation about needing a job came up, and one of my fellow volunteers mentioned THIS job to me. I love this job, and have been here over a year now...
