The Potter’s Hands

by Shelly Kneupper Tucker on November 1, 2009

I was fortunate this week to be able to watch a potter create his art. Although I took a pottery class in college, the skill eluded me (I dropped the class so it wouldn’t destroy my grade point average). Most of the few items I made were heavy enough to use as weapons and did not resemble any item of pottery ever seen by man. I suppose one could kindly call them “unique.”

This man, however, knew his craft and was kind enough to share it with me. I’ll be posting more fully about it later this week, with an entire series of photos that I snapped as he worked.

This is one skill I’d like to learn too, I’m not just sure if it would like me too. :) Great in mono’s.

Pottery and potters have always fascinated me, but I don’t have that kind of manual dexterity. Crochet, paint and sketch a bit–but pottery? The kind term is klutzy. Looking forward to more!

I’ve always wanted to take a pottery class. Someday I’m actually going to do it, too.

Great shots Shelly, they give a real feel for the process (pun slightly intended).

A perfect example of creativity. Excellent subject choice. I, too, would like to learn this craft. Very nice images.

Beautiful images. Can’t help but notice how the typing hands at the header of the page look like they’re covered in clay too. I realize it’s just the photoshop effect, but it’s interesting, in this context – molding words into shapes.
