Another Opportunity For Folks With Big Hearts

by Shelly Kneupper Tucker on November 13, 2009

Holidays are around the corner, and I’ve noticed that people open their hearts to others this time of year. Especially I see that knitters and crocheters all over the internet keep their hands busy creating items to give away. But, you don’t have to be crafty to give … just creative. You can purchase handmade items from someone on Etsy, or talk a friend into making a handmade gift and you pay the shipping!

That’s what I’m told at Sharing Our Gifts. They have a special program going on right now, and the deadline is almost upon us, to make hats and mittens for women and children at the Lee Shore Center in Kenai, Alaska, which provides a safe haven for women and children escaping from domestic abuse and sexual assault. That sounds like a place that could use the warmth of our love.

The project in Alaska is the second project in an ambitious goal of 50 projects for 50 states. My friend Barbara, who was one of the main participants in Share A Square two years ago, is collecting these and needs them by November 25th.

No, I didn’t give you a lot of time on this one, but if you are crafty I bet you make the time. Or, you can buy a handmade gift from a crafter … you know they would be happy to make a sale. That’s my “good” for this Only The Good Friday.

What’s yours?

I hope y’all have a wonderful weekend. Please join these other fine folks who occasionally post their “good.”

Hey, doll. I had a dedicated Only the Good post today. I’ve missed doing them, even though most of what I post is good.

Shelly, you are a sweetie. Thanks for highlighting the Sharing Our Gifts project. hugs to you.

And, to extend the deadline just a bit – we think if people put things in the mail to me BY Nov. 25th I should get them in plenty of time for an early December delivery. We are hoping for Dec. 2nd.

Thanks for your help!

I know you are loving having her visit! I’m so glad you are getting to see all your family. That is definitely a “good” thing.

I’ve been running!!! I can’t knit or crochet, so I’ve signed up for races for a cause. Our whole family does it together. So far this year, we’ve raised over $4,000 for cancer.

There you go! That’s pretty good on several fronts: family time, charity AND it’s good for your health. $4,000? I’m impressed.

Thank you for sharing our project! I just found you through Barbara’s blog, and I am so happy that you have highlighted our efforts so that others may join in on the fun. Next month, our project will be helping in Oklahoma, so be sure to visit then as well. Have a wonderful holiday season.

Keep me posted, Sinclair, and I’ll be happy to keep telling folks about it. I know there are crafters out there who stop by from time to time. They would be delighted for an opportunity to give.

Thank you! Project #3 is about to launch, and will be announced on my blog and on Ravelry on Dec. 5. We will be making hats and scarves for a charity in Oklahoma…specifics to be announced.
