Defining Myself With Wordle

by Shelly Kneupper Tucker on November 24, 2009

Do y’all ever get introspective? I’m going through that right now. It seems as if I “morph” every seven years or so and become a different person altogether. When that happens, I’m worthless as a writer, so this morning I’ve just been playing. After reading a post by Israeli Mom, who directed her readers to Wordle, I found my game for the day. Wordle is a toy, a site that makes word clouds.

I entered the URL of my blog, but didn’t like what I got (it included some of the words in the WordPress theme like “tags” and “categories”). So, I sat down and started writing words that I thought defined “me.” Here is what I got.

wordle2

Go give it a try. You can pick different fonts, alternate colors, turn the words horizontally or vertically, and give different “weight” to words by writing them more than once. You don’t even have to make it about yourself (because I know some of you aren’t as self-centered as I am). Make a tag cloud about Thanksgiving or Christmas?

Let me know how that works for you. I’m going back to my omphaloskepsis … that is, if I can find my navel.

Your homemade Wordle is far better. I had tried that before and was not impressed either. It just took a bunch of tags from my site, as if that was all there is to me or my site. We are endless depths, enough to make an onion blush! I do mean blush. (I read your comment about a whip!) :)

Now, I told you that comment about the whip wasn’t kinky! Yep, Wordle didn’t do much for me when I put the blog URL in, and I was disappointed about that. It took far longer to home-make one, but I kinda like it.

Oh wonderful! I write a blog about my latest obsession and play toy and now you send me off for another one … LIfe is starting to feel like fun, fun fun until her daddy takes her T-Bird away.

Have a great Thanksgiving.

I’m sorry. You do that to me, too! I’m just trying to keep you off the streets
