Optimism Virus to Battle the Cold Virus

by Shelly Kneupper Tucker on January 29, 2010

My “optimism virus” has been outgunned this week by a cold virus. I tell you what, it has been hard to see “Only The Good!” When things are going wrong, it’s probably the best time to practice optimism, eh? Let me try to shoot down that cold virus with some optimism. I’m going to give it my best shot, today, but you may have to help me out. I’ll attempt to turn a couple of bad situations around:

  1. All week, I was on the road working in schools in Beaumont, Texas. I had hoped to get to go to some museums because there are some good ones down in that neck of the woods that I wanted to tell y’all about. I never get a chance to see them when I am there because I am working all day. This trip, I had two lightly scheduled days, with only one performance. It left a lot of free time! Then … the cold virus struck me with a vengeance!

What’s the “good” in that? I had two days to recuperate! I spent most of them sleeping trying to get better. So, I don’t have any cool pictures or stories, but I survived! I’ll call that good.

  2. Yesterday, I had to get up at four a.m., so I could pack my car for the trip home and be at the high school to begin performing at 7:30. It was hard work, and I was exhausted before I headed to the school, but if I hadn’t gotten up so early I would have missed the gorgeous colors of the sunrise. Pretty sunrises are good, aren’t they? At my age, any sunrise is good.
    Clabbered sky. I didn't say I had a view!

  3. My seven hour drive home was on treacherous highways in driving rain and heavy traffic. By the time I reached my house, I was exhausted and my hands ached from gripping the steering wheel. BUT, my sweet husband had the house cleaned and vacuumed when I walked in the door. He unloaded all my bags for me. AND, I was greeted by the sight of my silly cat, who found a use for that “hand-some bowl” I told y’all about.

I’m feeling better already (although I think I’ll head back to bed soon!). A little bit of looking on the bright side helped. I hope you are having a wonderful Friday filled with Only The Good.

Just goes to show ya, doesn’t it, that when you grab your piece of the “good” wherever, whenever, you can, things do tend to look up a bit and usually earlier than you first imagined possible! I have mine up for today -surprise, surprise, huh?

Sometimes finding the good takes a little looking!

Glad you are feeling better – and now you know what belonged in the bowl. Way to make use of good to get through a rough trip.

Yep, it was a rough trip… but looking at it from the perspective that YOU taught me has helped. Thank you, my friend.

Yes, it’s a gorgeous kitty, but she has a malicious streak! Fortunately, she’s being adorable right now, when I need it.

Now she and her man who called himself Dan
Were in the next room at the hoedown
Rocky burst in and grinning a grin
He said Danny boy this is a showdown

Leave it to a cat to come up with the perfect use. Remember tonight is the largest full moon of the whole year. It rises in the east with Mars as a companion and if you are not overcast, should be spectacular.

And, you are the only person who got the reference to Rocky Raccoon, but I knew you would be
I didn’t get to see the moon. It was raining here … and I felt too yucky to go out and hope that the moon could peep through. Hope YOU got to see it.

I have been sick too, so I totally hear you about how hard it is to be positive when you feel like this. UGH. But we do the best we can, right?

Also, thanks for the laugh, because that photo of your cat in the “hand bowl”? HILARIOUS!!!

I saw on Twitter that you had been fighting it, too. I’ve been pretty lucky this year, but this time knocked me flat on my back.

Yeah, McGill is a handful of cute, alright.
