Snow Art is Ephemeral

by Shelly Kneupper Tucker on February 13, 2010

I couldn’t resist heading out to take more pictures of snow. Once it is a day or two old, it loses much of its magic, but perhaps you can still imagine it. This is what it looks like in my neck of the woods.

The Denton Courthouse

I wish I had taken a night picture of the courthouse, with the twinkle lights in the trees, but if wishes were horses, pigs would fly … or something like that.

It really has been fun to see people enjoying this “unusual phenomenon”.
We have had a lack of snow here…yet tons more snow on the ground. In fact it has been like the middle of Marc and not the middle of Feb. Yesterday we had 52 degrees and sunny.

Enjoy!

I’m not sure that everyone has “enjoyed,” but it was fun around here. That, of course, comes from someone who didn’t have to drive in it! I have no reason to complain of the cold, though. It’s Texas, after all. After about 15 minutes of spring-like weather, we will be hot enough to fry eggs on rocks.

LOL reminds me of the biggest snow we EVER had in Knobite Corner and surrounding “metropolitan” area–;)–the Blizzard of 1993 dumped somewhere around two feet of snow on us on the night of March 12-13 that year–and my BIL and nephew had a blast the next day making a St. Bernard out of snow. They still have pics of it somewhere. (But I can’t remember if he had the “brandy keg” around his neck or not.:()

A Saint Bernard in snow! How cool is that? The only unfortunate thing is that it is droopy the next day & then POOF it’s gone. I’d love to see a picture.

Nothing to do with snow, but I was reading Elizabeth Berg’s short story collection, ‘The Day I Ate Whatever I Wanted’, and a passage in ‘How to Make an Apple Pie’ made me think of you:

“Back again and with a glass of sherry to boot. I never did drink much but now I see the point. It’s only sherry, and its color is half the pleasure and of course the pretty little glass. I don’t drink coffee anymore, that gets my heart wild as a West Texas cowgirl and as one who comes from West Texas I can tell you that is some wild.”

Great snaps! Enjoy the rest of the snow.

Bwahaha! Did the drinking part remind you of me? Or was it the “wild” Texas cowgirl?

Joy February 16, 2010 at 11:39 am

I guess it was both. Judging by the hour of your comments, you’re either the last to turn in at night or the first to get up in the morning. A night owl myself. it’s nice to be prowling about when most of the civilized world is tucked safely in bed. I hear the drumbeat in your spirit; some would call wild. To me, it’s refreshing.

That “drumbeat” in my spirit is “Wipe Out!” . I’m the first one up and the last one to bed. We call it: old age (because menopause is over).
