Chances are pretty good that you know someone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. I read the following sentence on a post at BlogHer and found it staggering:
Did you know that one in eight women in the US will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime and breast cancer is the leading cause of death among US women ages 40-59?
Perhaps you have heard of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®? If not, you should read about it. This organization is increasing the awareness of breast cancer and raising money to fund research to cure the disease. Komen has already invested nearly $1.5 billion in community programs and breast cancer research. With our help, they can do even more!
Hold your horses! You can turn your wallet loose, because I’m not asking you to donate your money (although you can donate if you’d like … I’m sure they would take your cash). I’m asking you to make some comments so that BlogHer will donate! That’s right. You can comment at eight different posts and BlogHer will donate $1 per comment (up to $1,000) to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. Tell your friends! Tweet the posts! I’m all for spending someone else’s money!
BlogHer asked eight bloggers to relate the experience of how breast cancer touched their lives (I’m not one of them, so comments here don’t earn you anything but my undying affection). Go read them and leave a comment. It doesn’t cost you a dime … but you might shed a tear or two. I’ve read them all, commented on them all … and if you don’t go comment, I’ll do it all over again! I want BlogHer to donate $1,000!

Seriously, my friends, this is an easy way to get donations for a very worthy cause. And, you just might find a new blogging friend or two! Let’s all pitch in to help find a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime.

My friend Deb and I did the 3-day in 2002 from Santa Barbara to Malibu. Acutally it was to Oxnard since there was a problem somewhere on the route during the walk. But it was the most fantastic experience ever. And it was all for breast cancer. Emotional, uplifting, and hard. But worth every single step, every blister, every tear. Back then it was sponsored by Avon.
