I’ll admit that this “Tweeter Totter” is not the most aesthetically pleasing hummingbird feeder to be found at Wild Birds Unlimited. I bought it anyway.
I’ve been in the store before and shelled out big bucks for beautiful blown glass feeders that looked like hanging jewels. I enjoyed seeing those hanging on my back porch … and so did the bees!
The hummingbirds, however, pretty much ignored those feeders. I wound up throwing away most of the sugar water I had made for them. Do you think that they were reacting like children do when you put too much food on their plate? With too much to eat they don’t want any of it.
Hummingbirds have a high metabolism and supposedly eat twice their weight in nectar every day. I thought they would enjoy having a feast, but they didn’t like those colorful feeders until I took them down! Then, every stinkin’ day the hummingbirds flew under the eaves of the porch and hovered in front of my face as I drank my coffee, staring at me with their angry, beady eyes. I took the hint.
This Tweeter Totter, with its tiny test tubes, was the smallest hummingbird feeder I could find. I can fill both test tubes with 1/8 of a cup of “nectar.” Amazingly, they are emptying it every day. They never drank that much out of the big feeders. I just wish I had visited the Holland Hill website to find feeders that were a little more fancy. Maybe I can just add beads?
It’s fun to watch the hummers perch on the loops on either side. They actually sit still to eat! Their weight makes that side “teeter” down, so that the nectar advances down the tube. I now have happy hummingbirds and can drink my coffee in peace (as long as I remembered to fill the tubes!).

I tried one of those pretty glass feeders and it was a no go in my yard, I didn’t even get bees.
We use those cheapy plastic one from the five and dime, along with 25 lbs of sugar each year. What a pleasure!
Yep a few beads would be an improvement for your new feeder.

I’m going to try beads on them. I wish I had bought a cheapy plastic one in the beginning! Those pretty glass ones were expensive, and now just hiding under my cabinets.
You have visitors ! I would like to see hummingbirds in Montreal, lucky you.

They are lovely to see … until they buzz your nose!
I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen a real life hummingbird or not! Hmmmm….I actually think the Tweeter Totter is kind of cool. Much more aesthetically pleasing than my Topsy Turvy Tomato Tree
I’ve been putting bird seed in my feeder every day, but truly, I think they only things eating it are squirrels.
If you’ve seen a real life hummingbird, you would know it! It hovers, and it’s wings move so fast they are a blur. I like seeing them sit stil on this feeder.
Do you like your TT Tomato Tree? I thought about getting one, but figured I’d kill the plant before I got tomatoes.
Yes … the rodents (squirrels) attack my bird feeder, too. But, they don’t eat sugar water
Gorgeous loooking test tubes and thing-a-ma-bob you got there! Ingenius! Missed you girl! and I see you’re still rockin’ bloggerville like always:) Take Care!

I miss you, too! I don’t get to read often enough … at least haven’t the last few months. I’ll try to make up for it this summer.
