Playing Ketchup

by Shelly Kneupper Tucker on July 2, 2010

ketchup bottleIt’s not a game, really. And, I’m not making ketchup, like Joy does at Stop Blogging and Cook. That would be much more fun (and delicious!). I’m simply trying to catch up! Do y’all have days like that? Probably not. I bet every doggone one of you have your world totally organized. So, would you like to drop by my house and help?

I can’t seem to “clean my plate.” It’s almost as if I have one of those magical dishes from the folk tales that is always full. Could it be that I bring this on myself? Nahhh!

Now, some of what I’m doing is great fun — like finishing the centerpieces for our upcoming wedding. I’ve got all the cowboy boots now, and I think I have the smells gone (thanks to your suggestions!). Yesterday I scavenged in a junk shop to get old bottles, Prince Albert tins, and other funky items for my vignettes. Yes, I know it sounds strange, but I’ll show you pictures when I’m satisfied with my results.

Some of what I am doing is challenging — like beginning Share A Square all over again. We are trying to “do it right” this time and eliminate some of the glitches we had the first time around. Two difficulties I’m having:

  • I started a Facebook group for Share A Square, but it doesn’t alert me when there is a comment or a new group member. I don’t know how to make it do that. I’m having to read through everything several times a day so I can keep up. Anyone knowledgeable about Facebook?
  • I’m trying to figure out ways to publicize Share A Square! Any suggestions will be helpful.

Then there are a few things that are just time consuming — like emptying my inbox and tallying the comments on four posts so I can give away $100! You still have a few days to comment (I said I wouldn’t tell y’all again, but I lied), so visit the contest landing page to see the 4 posts included.

That might not seem like an Only The Good Friday post to you, but the “good” part is that I am making headway, and I’m optimistic about it … and I might get through in time to watch the Merlin marathon on the SciFi channel! I can crochet while I do that, so it isn’t a total waste of time. Heck, if I had Merlin here right now, I could be through with all this in a snap!

So, how is your day going? I hope it’s all good!

Shelly, to receive email notifications should be under Account settings on FB. I could be wrong though.

FB still won’t give them to me. I don’t know what the problem could be. Probably it’s something about the way I set it up.

I am a terrible person. When I first read through your post, all I could think of was, “Do you have Prince Albert in a can?” It’s been that sort of day–yes, it has. I think Elizabeth has it right on account settings. I get too much information as it is, and it all comes via e-mail. I’ve gotten some nice replies from my Etsy crowd. There was a huge show last weekend, and there is another one this weekend, so I don’t expect to hear from them until after the first of the week. Stay cool, enjoy the Fourth!

I’ve concluded that it is just not possible to clean the plate. Except in the most literal sense, of course, where food is concerned, especially if it’s a plate lovingly prepared for someone. Life is messy and complicated, with the unending, unrelenting inevitability of junk mail and smashed glasses empty and full. Survival skills include creating meaningful centerpieces while knowing how to keep the smells down. Gratitude of those who brighten the little corners of the world with creative individuality gives us the grace to get through another plateful, another sunset. No plate, no sunrise.

Interesting content and thoughtful commentary are minimum daily requirements, often lacking in cybercrap. But, thankfully, there is a sassy, Texas storyteller who makes slogging through the sucking vortex of life’s force field worthwhile. Through it all, maybe someone likes our ketchup recipe and passes it along. The splendor of the rose in full bloom that someone has bothered to photograph, even absent it’s fragrance, inspires. Finding Only the Good comes to those who are looking for it.

Shelly, you have to find the “Modify” options for the group, not your account.

not sure too many people read my blog – but I will put something there.

You might also join ravelry.com and form a group and talk about it there.

hugs, my friend!

Oh my gosh…you too. I am so far behind right now I don’t think I will ever catch up.

I absolutely love summer but it brings the added work of the yard. The big problem is I love to go out plant and putter. Then all the rest gets neglected.

Enjoy Merlin and I can’t wait to see the pics of your wedding center pieces. To bad we are not neighbors, I just happen to own tons of that stuff. I think we have about 50 tobacco cans.

I am still having trouble with that Facebook page, and don’t know how in the world to fix it. I think I must have set it up wrong … but who can really understand Facebook? Joy, thanks for the kind words, and Sheila … if you lived near me I would certainly borrow about six of those cans!
Barbara, I appreciate your support, girlfriend.
