On the ninth floor of the Baldwin Hotel, near Union Square in San Francisco, I prepared to go to sleep for the night. However, when I walked near the window I heard a haunting melody. Someone was playing a saxophone outside. Like a child drawn to the music, I grabbed my camera to venture outside and find the “Pied Piper.” He was on a corner just one street down.
He spoke little English, and I did not speak his language, but we understood each other. As I leaned against the building and listened, he played several different melodies for me. I didn’t recognize a one of them, but they were so beautiful I almost cried.
He wasn’t the only street musician I heard during the day, but he is the only one who drew me down nine flights and up the street with bills for his tip can.
Did I tell y’all I love San Francisco?

How cool! I love street musicians. Downtown here there is a guy who plays by the train station and he is just amazing. The sound of a saxophone is one of my favorites. I was excited that three of my kids wanted to play. Yeah. Let’s just say it takes more than a bit of practice
Hope you continue to find wonderful things on your trip! Loving the pics on FB,too!
Oh girl! Listening to them learn how to play must have been … interesting
. Saxophone is one of my favorite, too. My son doesn’t think much of street musicians, so I’m glad he wasn’t here to see me swoon for this one.
I expect to see many more delights in San Francisco. More than I can process! Thanks for commenting on the FB pics. They are a lovely couple, aren’t they?
San Francisco is so easy to love … like a faithless lover who draws you back against your better judgement but who you will never forget.
A faithless lover who is very LOUD! I had forgotten how noisy it is here
