An Idea for Alltop Categories

Do you ever have time to blog surf, and just don’t know where to find blogs? I’ve told y’all before about Alltop.com, which is THE place to go to find a wealth of fine bloggers. It was started by Guy Kawasaki, and if you don’t have Guy’s blog in your feed, you should! He’s got interesting tidbits all the time.

Recently, I noticed that there is now a category just for Hawaiian bloggers. I’m sorry, and I don’t mean to offend you Hawaii folks, but I’m quite put out that there is not a category for Texas bloggers! That’s right, folks, Texas bloggers.

Hey, what has Hawaii got that we don’t have? Sure, they have beaches, but so do we.

OK, maybe we don’t brag about the beaches.

We’ve got purdy flowers.

We’ve got pirates!

We’ve got shrimp kisses! That’s shrimp wrapped in bacon and grilled. Yum!

Yes, I think there should be a category for Texans on Alltop. So, all you Texas bloggers raise your hands and we shall e-mail Guy and take him by storm. If we all e-mail him, he will start a new category.

I had written him and asked him if there could be a category for Baby Boomer bloggers, and he told me they are adding new categories all the time. There should be a category called “Blog Soup,” for those who don’t fit in anywhere else. What other categories should they have?

I’m thinking one for bacon lovers would be good. I could spend hours drooling over that one!

I Think You are Going To Like Alltop.com

alltop_250x250.jpg

Do y’all ever go searching for new blogs to read, and flit from blog to blog. Sometimes, you follow commentors. Other times you look at blogrolls. All that work in the quest for something new.

You don’t have to do that searching anymore. Have y’all visited Alltop yet? Their motto is “We’ve got all the top stories covered all the time.” If you want to know more about it, Schmutzie has an in-depth article. Or, you can just go see for yourself at Alltop. com

It’s an online “magazine.” The last five feeds of different blogs (in several areas of interest) are featured on the site. There are eight different categories, each divided into topics, with more on the way. You can look under Work, People, Living, Culture, Geekery, Interests, Good, News. There are interesting subcategories under each. You’ll find me and similar bloggers in the “Life” subcategory under the heading “Living.”

I’m delighted to get to be a part of it. But, even more, I’m delighted that it’s there! It’s about the easiest way to find quality blogs that I have ever seen. One of my favorite features, is that if you hover over a link to a feed, a little box pops up that includes the first few paragraphs. You can see if it might be something you want to read before you click on it.

Run right over there and look! I think you are going to like it. Come back and tell me what you think. You can even thank me if you want to, I don’t mind.

Now They’ve Done It. Blogger Made Me Want To “Change My Tone”

I’m on a rant. Yes, I am. I’m so angry that I’m pounding the keyboard. I’m FURIOUS at Blogger.com. The IDIOTS.

Blogger does the same thing my Hoover vacuum cleaner does. Do I have to spell that out for you?

Here’s why:

So, I decided a couple of days ago to participate in the x365 project (writing 54 words every day for a year about people who have passed through my life). I wrote about it here.

I started a little blog on Blogger, nothing fancy. I didn’t allow comments (because the blog is really just for me, though I would let you read it). And, I posted to it twice. The second post had the word “pervert” in it. I don’t know exactly what problem that Blogger had with it.

I received this notification:

Your blog, at http://shellysx365.blogspot.com/, has been identified as a potential spam blog. For an explanation of what spam blogs are, please see Blogger Help.

You will not be able to publish posts to your blog until we review your site and confirm that it is not a spam blog. To request a review, please fill out the form.

We will take a look at your blog and unlock it within four business days. Please note that if we do not hear from you within 20 days, we will remove your blog. If this blog does not belong to you, then you do not have to do anything. Any other blogs you may have will not be affected.

Since you are an actual person reading this, your blog is probably not spam. We find spam by using an automated classifier. Automatic spam detection is inherently fuzzy, and occasionally a blog is flagged incorrectly. We sincerely apologize for this erroneous result. By using this kind of system, however, we can dedicate more storage, bandwidth, and engineering resources to users like you instead of to spammers.

Thank you for your understanding and for your help in our spam-fighting efforts.

Sincerely,

The Blogger Team

Blogger Team, you don’t have my understanding. I am not amused. I’ve deleted the other blogs I had with you, and look forward to getting to delete that blog and stop dealing with you entirely.

Leanne
came to my rescue and put a WordPress blog together for me. Not only is it prettier than anything Blogger has to offer, it’s reliable. Here is the link to my new: Shelly’s x365.

So THERE, Blogger. I don’t need you anyway.

Whew. I feel better now that I got that out of my system.
