Share A Square

This was an awesome project that involved hundreds of volunteers. It has its own website at Share A Square. Many, but not all, of the posts were moved there. Thanks for visiting.

Mail Call

November 19, 2007

I got home from my two week trip to find a huge pile of mail for the Share A Square program! My Sweet Spousal Unit went faithfully to the mailbox every day while I was gone. Isn’t he a good guy?
Whoot! Look at what piled up. Thanks to everyone for your hard [...]

November Share A Square Update

November 1, 2007

On December the 12th, the local arts council here in Denton has agreed to let me lay out the finished afghans on the floor of the building and take a picture of a
“Sea of Afghans!” I hope to get a photographer to take good pictures of each afghan (I’m hopeless as a photographer!). [...]

“I Have No Words”

October 28, 2007

Well, actually, I do. Have words, that is. It takes a lot to make a storyteller go speechless, but this week almost did it. That title quotes my friend Lola, who faithfully translates my pages into Spanish so she can read them. She had seen a picture I posted of a [...]

Post Office Madness. Share A Square Update.

October 23, 2007

Hey, Kids! We are back from our trip to California, with much to tell you. I found myself on the coast of northern California (Mendocino) without much ability to get a regular internet connection, so I’ll be posting more about California in the next couple of days. For right now, I have [...]

Warm Your Heart

October 12, 2007

Y’all, any day that you think there is too much evil in the world, I want you to think about this Share A Square Project. We are working together to make 140 afghans for the children at Camp Sanguinity. It’s a summer camp for children with cancer. You would not believe the [...]

Manic Monday, In More Ways Than One

September 24, 2007

It’s [tag]Manic Monday[/tag], in more ways than one around here. Mo at It’s A Blog Eat Blog World gives us a word prompt each week, and those of us who participate use that to inspire a post. The word for today is “kit.” This weekend, I’ve been working on some afghan [...]

A Quick Note

My Thursday Thirteen is one post down. I wanted to let you know that tomorrow there will be more silliness from Dear Abby. She will answer those of you who have entered, and share some of YOUR attempts at being an advice columnist. Be sure you enter the [tag]Dear Abby Writing Contest[/tag], [...]

Share A Square Afghan Gallery

September 11, 2007

Y’all, I don’t take very good pictures, and my eyesight is shot. These didn’t look blurry while I was taking them. Maybe I can find a professional photographer who will volunteer to get these [tag]photographs[/tag]. As Connie K said, “The afghans are much more beautiful when you can see them and [...]

Share A Square September Update Page

September 5, 2007

Y’all have been waiting very patiently, and I thank you for that. I’ve been as busy as a one-armed woman saddling a horse, and a lot is getting done. On Tuesdays, I crochet with the Senior Center Needlework Group here in Denton, and on Wednesdays I drive to Roanoke to crochet with another [...]

Manic Monday. Labor of Love

September 3, 2007

Since June 14th, 2007, many people have been laboring with love. They have been making six inch crocheted or knitted squares to put into [tag]afghans[/tag] for children at [tag]Camp Sanguinity[/tag] [tag]Cancer[/tag] Camp next summer (2008). Others have been stitching these into beautiful afghans to bring comfort to those children, and let each child [...]

Thursday Thirteen Number 25. I Just Have to Share

August 30, 2007

Y’all, there are days that I worry about the “monster” I have created. I had spent six months building a readership for this blog. I made many blogging friends and enjoyed visiting them every day. They came faithfully to read the stories that I wrote. I was having a lot of [...]

Fumbling Around

August 17, 2007

Yesterday was a frustrating day for me, because I could not find my glasses. I fumbled around and looked high and low (and yes I looked on top of my head, Vixen and Jen). I backtracked trying to trace my steps. I looked under the bed in case the cats had [...]

Share A Square Day Update—Lemonade

August 13, 2007

Sometimes, my friends, all you can do is make lemonade.
Sunday was Share A Square Day in Denton, Texas. I had talked Michelle, who owns a totally awesome local bistro called “banter,” into allowing us to use her space for the day (I didn’t have to twist her arm very hard). She generously offered [...]

Share A Square —”The Nekkid Truth”

August 3, 2007

Do y’all know that fairy tale of the shoemaker and the elves? Sure, you remember: The poor shoemaker couldn’t work fast enough to get ahead, so those little nekkid elves came and helped him work. They could do in one night what it took the shoemaker a week to do.
I wish I could [...]

Getting My Ducks In A Row

July 31, 2007

I had hoped that during the last month I would get organized. I wanted to “get my ducks in a row.” Summer is almost over, and here I am. I didn’t get there! Every time I think I’ll get my act together, something comes along to make those ducks get out [...]

Squares Keep Coming To My Mailbox

July 27, 2007

Look what we have done so far! We’ve collected 1321 since June 14th! I don’t think we will have a problem at all getting the squares we need. Getting them put together will be a little trickier….

This is the third afghan. I’ve been working on it on the porch while it’s [...]

Aftermath of the First Share A Square Day

July 23, 2007

Y’all may have noticed that I’ve been a little bit quiet since the 1st Share A Square Day. We were pretty successful for not having done it before, but I know a little more about what to do next time.
I’ve been quiet, because I’ve been a bit overwhelmed. Today a [...]

Sharing Squares at The Colony Public Library

July 20, 2007

Before I went to The Colony for the First Share A Square Day, I ran by the post office and got beautiful squares from Carol O. in Honolulu, Hawaii to add to the mix. I slapped them into afghan piles so fast that I didn’t get pictures. Trust me, they are wonderful.
Well, I [...]

Thursday Thirteen Number 19—I’m Boring, Yes I’m A Square

July 19, 2007

I wasn’t even going to write again until Sunday, because lately I’ve become a one-note wonder. I thought I’d take a break and catch my breath, so I could write about things that would interest all my readers. I felt a little like my friend SusieJ felt a few days ago and I [...]
