GRANNY AFGHAN SQUARES FOR
SHARE A SQUARE

Use brightly colored yarns of any weight, we aren’t going to be picky about it! I’m using synthetic yarns instead of wool or cotton, but use what you have or can afford to buy. Use any colors you choose. Volunteers will add a row of black around the edge to put it all together. It will look like a stained glass window.

The pattern calls for a Size J-10 (6 mm) crochet hook. I had to use a much smaller one to get the gauge. Please measure!

* GAUGE: Each small square: 6 ” x 6 .” Volunteers will add a row of black crochet around your square. Be sure to check your gauge.

• With first color, ch 4 and join to form ring.
• Rnd 1 Ch 3 - that ch 3 counts as a dc in this and all following rnds, 2 dc in ring, (ch 2, 3 dc in ring) 3 times, ch 2, slip st to top of beg ch. Fasten off. Do not turn, work in rnds.
• Rnd 2 Join new color in any ch-2 space, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same space -corner made, *ch 1, skip next 3 dc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 space; rep from * 2 more times, ch 1, skip next 3 dc and join in top of beg ch. Fasten off.
• Rnd 3 Join new color in any ch-2 corner space, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same space - corner made, *ch 1, skip next 3 dc, 3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, skip next 3 dc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 space - corner made; rep from * 2 more times, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, skip next 3 dc, join in top of beg ch. Fasten off.
• Rnd 4 Join new color in any ch-2 corner space, ch 2, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same space - corner made, *(ch 1, skip next 3 dc, 3 dc in next ch-1 space) 2 times, ch 1, skip next 3 dc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 space; rep from * 2 more times, (ch 1, skip next 3 dc, 3 dc in next ch-1 space) 2 times, ch 1, skip next 3 dc, join to top of beg ch. Fasten off.
• Rnd 5 Join D in any ch-2 corner space, ch 2, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same space - corner made, *(ch 1, skip next 3 dc, 3 dc in next ch-1 space) 3 times, ch 1, skip next 3 dc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 space; rep from * 2 more times, (ch 1, skip next 3 dc, 3 dc in next ch-1 space) 3 times, ch 1, skip next 3 dc, join to top of beg ch. Fasten off.
• Tuck in all the ends, please
• Put your name, and location, perhaps with a note of good wishes, on a small gift tag or business card. Punch a hole in one corner, and thread yarn or ribbon through that to tie it to the center of the square.
