I want to thank everyone again who has been working so hard on the Share A Square afghans. The response to this has been so heartwarming. We’ve made some tremendous progress, but we have a long “row to hoe.” I know that all of you are contributing what you can, and I promise that it will be worth it next summer when we give these afghans to the children at Camp Sanguinity.

The last several days have been very busy ones at my house. I’ve been sorting and stacking squares. Darnit, I haven’t been able to cook, because squares have been all over the kitchen counter. You know that not cooking breaks my heart, don’t you? You know I’m being facetious, don’t you?

I have been putting those lovely squares you have sent to me into kits, hoping that I will find volunteers to put them together. Here is the rundown of what I have at this moment:
14 afghans I showed you here.
+ 3 (put together by Alice, Tracey and Linda).
+ 2 that I put together.
+ 2 that I am frantically trying to finish.
+ 4 I will get from Connie K. today.
When I get those two of mine done  , I’ll have 25 finished afghans to get packaged away next week.

There are several volunteers who are working on afghans.
+ 1 Linda
+ 1 Donna G.
+ 2 Tracey
+ 1 Vixen
+ 1 Denton Sr. Center
+ 1 an anonymous volunteer
+ 1 Kay M.
+ 1 Alice
+ 2 Cindy & Carol
+ 1 Rebecca T
That’s 12 more afghans that I can count on being finished before December, for a total of 37.

I have 12 “kits” put together (Connie will take 4 today, and Monday I will give 1 to Laura S.). I’ll rim all the edges for one and have my little sister stitch it together. [NOTE: If you can't crochet, but know how to whipstitch, I'll get rimmed squares to you and you can put together an afghan!]

I need 6 more volunteers willing to stitch together an afghan. Once those are done, we will have 49 afghans.

I’d like to get 70 afghans done before December, so that we can all take off for the holidays. I need to package 21 more afghan kits BEFORE NOVEMBER, because I will be traveling during that month.

Right now, I can’t put together any more kits.

I know y’all are thinking, “Shelly, that’s crazy! You have more than half of the squares you need!” Yes, but after packaging those kits, I only have 16 stacks left.

I need squares from lots of different people. I don’t need any one person to send me a truckload of squares. If you sent me them today, I don’t need more than 91 squares from you (that’s how many afghans are left to be put together).

I could put together 22 more afghan kits:

  • If 32 people sent me 22 squares each.
  • OR if 64 people sent me 11 squares each.
  • OR if 176 people sent me 4 squares each.
  • Some folks have asked me what I will do if we get “too many squares.” Extra squares will be put together into afghans for Cooks Children’s Hospital. Nothing is going to go “to waste!” So people please keep crocheting, or start crocheting, and ask you friends to crochet!

Visit the FAQ if you haven’t participated before, and it should answer your questions.

I’ll start an update page for October with more pictures over the weekend. I hope!
